I've replaced a few wonky Autometer and other gauges with Auber gauges. The probes were fine.
Edit: If you want an Auber gauge I can ship one to a friend's in Moab for you.

I'm about to shoot every mechanic in Moab! Well, I had an appointment with the "best" mechanic in town who then cancelled on me when I took it in, so I drove around to about 20 other mechanics (no exaggeration) all of which were booked solid. I'll be driving 12 hours tomorrow so I want to make sure it's no more serious than an exhaust leak. I can say that 2 people I talked to were nice but the rest were at best dismissive if not completely rude. In the end I took it back to the first mechanic who, after much convincing, scheduled me for later in the day which at least means I can get the van looked at but completely ruins the only day I had time to go hiking around Arches.
I ended up also sourcing a new Pyrometer but it cost me $170 because if you want to buy the gauge without the probe it only costs $20-30 less.
Anyway, my day is going to the dogs so I had to vent a bit. Hopefully things go more smoothly tomorrow.

Well I just installed the new gauge and I'm having the exact same problem! I'm at a complete loss and now need to find a mechanic in Albuquerque who's willing to fix my supposed exhaust leak, replace a u-joint and if the exhaust isn't causing the pyro problems, figure that out as well. Any suggestions for places to go?

Did you replace just the gauge or all the wiring aswell?
Measure it twice, cut once. Dam still cut wrong

Your exhaust leak is causing your issue with the EGR...sucking cold air in...
look at #5 symptom A) crack in manifold before sensor...http://www.to-avionics.com/insight/diagnose.html
Have you pulled the drivers seat yet to find the problem> crack manifold, bad gasket, egr plate, turbo...
Find your problem first.
You run high EGT temps for a post turbo application? what is the max EGT you allow? Do you let the turbo cool before shut downs?
Pull the seat it only takes 10 minutes and find the leak (small hose to ear and other end poke around)

Just read your other post that you pulled the seat....
do you have a boost gauge? I am wondering if the turbo hosing cracked? Especially around the down pipe?
Plug the tail pipe and force more exhaust out the crack to help you find the leak (add some seafoam to make smoke if you need it)

You're close to Mexico, whip down there.....they can repair anything and cheaply.

My dad would kill me if I went to Mexico now. I found a place in Santa Fe to look at it anyway, they said if they can't do all the work needed they'll find me someone who can. The van made it from Moab to Santa Fe and I'm currently in Albuquerque. I'll be heading back to Santa Fe tomorrow and have an appointment for Friday morning (I have lots of time to just hang around Santa Fe if need be). Sorry, I didn't see this question. I replaced the gauge but kept the wiring from the probe to the gauge. I've thought that the probe may be the problem if that's what you're implying but I will wait until the exhaust leak is fixed before I play around with this too much. No aftermarket gauges other than EGT. I will be looking into an oil pressure and boost gauge when I get back. I will be pulling the seat etc in preparation for the mechanic tomorrow and will taake another poke around at that point. But did you check or replace the wiring for the gauge itself. There should be the wiring to from the probe but also a power for the gauge and a ground for the gauge.
