Ever planned to do an oil change, get the oil and everything,
borrow the shop for the next day and...
realize you don't have the extra oil filter you thought you had.......
I have 3 fuel filters sitting here but no oil filter.
Almost tempted to just drain the oil, remove the filter, drain it
and change the bypass oil filter I have, then put the old oil filter
back in till I get the new ones...
How much crud would really get back into the oil from reusing the filter for 2 weeks.
I could simply redo the bypass filter (tp) again when I swap the filter in.
Whatcha think?

It's fine, especially with your bypass filter. You can leave your full flow on for every 2 changes.

How frustrating. Personally I hate going into a job without all my ducks in a row. But I think you can do this.
You have to drop the oil to change the filter so your decision tree is leave the filter in until next oil change or not. Lots of people change filters every second oil change/10,000km so that is a reasonable option. That said, I discourage the practice but you have a bypass so isn't the point of that to reduce frequency of filter and oil changes?
I'd say its fine for one oil change. Don't blow your day.

Silly Oil change woes
I do change the bypass filter frequently. Maybe I'll dwell on it and see what happens. Your right in that it throws everything out of kilter :)

Then you won't have any problems at all. Most people change their oil too often anyways, and if you are changing your bypass filter odds are your oil is in MUCH better shape than most engines are!Firesong wrote:I do change the bypass filter frequently.
