L400 windshield replacement?

Post by mac_stang »

Hey everyone, just wondering what the deal is with ICBC comprehensive insurance coverage. Does the coverage apply to my van? $200 deductible?..they did sell us the insurance...

Thank You in advance for any response!
Brad.

P.S. I couldn't figure out which thread this would fit into.

it depends on what coverage your plan has

$200 deductible is norm for accidental windshield damage (rock, etc..)

$300-xxxx range for comprehensive (fire, theft, damage, etc...)

I am running into this right now here in Alberta though. My windshield developed a monster crack yesterday and I have started sourcing a new windshield myself as my deductable is $2000. Gonna phone my agent this afternoon to see what I can do. Private insurance here in Alberta= different standards.

Thanks Jessie, I have had numerous windshields done one my vehicles(2 done by myself) and I know how the deductibles work in the ICBC comprehensive plan. I was just concerned due to the amount of owners looking for windshields on there own, started to sound like they were refuses an insurance replacement. I just wanted to see if anyone has popped into "broco" etc and had there's replaced without any issues(increased deductibles etc)
Thanks again jessie!

...And good luck Craig!!

first time I've heard ICBC refusing to replace the windshield. Is this just heresay or do you know someone who has been refused?

I know that the super/royal exceeds come with a heated strip and that particular windshield is astronomically priced, however the stock L400 windshields without the heated strips are just a few hundred bucks.

I've had three L400 windshield replacements, no issues. Different places. Apple and two speedy's.

Yeah, so I have full glass coverage with a deductable of $2500. What a waste. I am going to cancel the full and go to partial glass coverage and save the $60. Guess I am hunting for a windshield. Sucks because I had the heated wiper defrosters but unless I win Lotto Max, I don't think I will have them again. Trying to get some quotes from some vendors to hopefully find a decent price. I noticed RMI is $800 for a plain jane. Seems to be on the high end to me. Oh well. Such is life.

Just a point. I am getting Kirmac to do my Pajero windshield and ICBC's fine print says it must be the original. So I took this to heart. I was able to find almost anyone to replace mine but my "original" has the wiper defrost heater in it which wasn't easy to find. So I demanded they find the same because that's what the find print reads. Kirmac was good and found the exact one in Japan and will ship it. Still with all that extra work and shipping its $200 deductible to me :)

So don't settle on a basic replacement because you think you have to because you own a JDM. $200 deductible is still $200 regardless where it has to come from.

Cheers

Edited post to be less offensive :-D

For sure do not let ICBC replace you deluxe windshield with a generic without the deluxe features (unless you are ok giving up the built in heaters that is...if you are so lucky to have them)...

My wiper defrost option is my 5 year old standing on the bush bar smacking the wipers in a pull out :-D

Hi Cregan,
Thanks for noticing we stock windshields. There are 4 different windshields for the L400. Green heated and non-heated and bronze heated and non-heated. Our green non-heated windshields are $450. We are updating our website with up to date pricing. $800 is for a heated green windshield.
Thank you,

Thank you for clairifying. Those prices are much more do-able. Hopefully you can get the updated prices up soon. Is the green windshield aftermarket with the tint band across the top?

I am not sure if it has a tint band or not. I have 2 that will be here next week. They are aftermarket. This windshield from Mitsubishi would land in Canada for around $1100 cost.
Thank you,

When I replaced my windshield on my L300 I just went to Broco in Victoria and they sourced one in a few hours and I had it installed the next day, came out to $ 235 I think.

Winter thusfar, has been unkind to my L400 windshield....I think a group buy to get shipping costs into Alberta down would be a good thing...Is RMI interested?

Group buys are always welcome.

I just need a list of chassis numbers and can quote windshields. There are 4 options for windshields and can be discussed. I do get a 75% discount on shipping by Day&Ross and will pass on the savings.
