Re: Inline Coolant heater.
To work properly place it must be placed as low and as near to the lowest outlet on the engine as possible and the heater outlet needs to be connected as close as possible to a top inlet in the head, as directly as possible, otherwise it won't work well, or not at all.
There is a secondary heater and small diameter heater hoses for the passenger compartment that might lend themselves to this connection. I don't know of anyone on this forum who has installed this type of heater unit on an L400...at least not yet.
You could be first though!

Re: Inline Coolant heater.
There is one on my l400. Previous owner stated that it works incredibly well (since i havnt had my cold start issue solved i havnt driven it yet in this weather because it wont even come close to starting, so no personal experience) The nice part is the vents blowing warm air alot sooner inside the van!

Re: Inline Coolant heater.
Check the shop manual in L400 Dedicated Category Reference Forum. I'd think it'll be under the Cooling Systems group.

35 mm hose inner diameter, or 1 3/8" if available. 1 1/2" too big.

Re: Inline Coolant heater.
I can post a pic here in a bit big bird. I tried getting my van running first time this winter. Plugged it in for an hour although half hour would have been fine and it worked amazing. Started better than many times this summer. Then my father in law plugged it in to move the van and i guess it blew a coolant hose somewhere because the neighbor ran over telling us the van was on fire when in fact it was just super hot coolant dumping everywhere billowing steam from under the hood. So it works great!!! ................Just another problem to fix again.

Re: Inline Coolant heater.
My coolant heater is not installed yet. I'll change the lower rad hose at the same time. My friend told me that a coolant heater is hard on your hose. Good luck with your van.

Re: Inline Coolant heater.
Can you post pictures of your installation? I was thinking of doing the same thing. I was having trouble starting a couple of weeks ago in the colder temperatures. I have an oil pan heater, but no coolant heater.
