Re: Volkswagen's Delica: "Caravelle" & "California"

Thanks for the replies everyone. If I'm understanding correctly, I would not be able to bring a 2010 model, even if it's LHD from Germany. That's a pretty big bummer.

Volkswagen's Delica: "Caravelle" & "California"

Can anyone tell me if it's possible to import a left-hand-drive vehicle from Germany? Do the same 15 year rules apply to European market cars? Volkswagen's 4 cylinder TDI vans, the "New California" and "Caravelle" look extremely appealing (and extremely expensive!) After being De...

Re: Child seat and cup holders

We have the same setup in our van, except we put bolt hangers on the two rear bolts of the captains seat, and added a couple links of chain to each. The child seat's built-in anchor slips between the seat back and seat bottom and attaches securely. We also use the lap belt with a block for backup. O...

I average 12.2L/100Km around the streets of Vancouver, and a little better out on the highway.

Do you think you would need longer bolts to secure the captain's chair rail if you had a layer of plywood too? Looks like a great job. If you're looking to sell a piece of your remaining roll I would be happy to buy.

Re: Our new bed set-up

Great work, guys!

What's the flooring material? Did you just put it over the existing carpet and re-screw the step molding over top? What about the track bolts for the captain's chairs?

I've been considering a durable, cleanable floor material for some time. Thanks!

I'd love to see photos of your laminate flooring-- I was thinking this would be a great install at some point. Good luck with your sale!

Re: Engine failure in WA - towing to Vancouver ideas?

After waiting a while at the border Bayview Towing (awesome company which only does recovery stuff) I got the van back to our mechanic in vancouver. BCAA RV Plus was a huge asset, saving us roughly $600 in towing fees. It turns out that a timing belt rotor failed which caused all hell to break loose...

Re: Engine failure in WA - towing to Vancouver ideas?

We got it all sorted out: My father in-law who was with us has the Premium RV Plus BCAA membership, and you get "one tow per problem." They would have either reimbursed us for our initial tow charge (to get off the I-5) or pay for the tow back to our shop in Vancouver. They get AAA to tow ...

Re: Engine failure in WA - towing to Vancouver ideas?

Thanks for all your suggestions-- they have been really helpful. I'm on the phone right now putting things together and I'll post an update when it's all in place. My brother's F-350 Diesel is loaded with thousands of pounds of gear for a trip next week, so we'd have to unload a lot of it before tow...

Thanks JMK -- any ideas where to rent a tow bar? My brother has a truck that would be perfect for the job.

Engine failure in WA - towing to Vancouver ideas?

Our delica broke down on the I-5 north of Marysville last week. We were loaded up with 7 people and bags to catch our flight to Kauai from Seattle. Amazingly we were able to secure a tow truck and taxi (from the shoulder of the I-5) within 40 minutes and we made our flight. We're having a fun time s...

Vancouver: Meals on Wheels Drivers Needed

I just saw the Golbal News story about how regular meals on wheels drivers are unable to drive their regular routes because their cars are snowed in or they're getting stuck. They are looking for volunteers with 4WD to get through residential streets. This might be a job for you and your Delica . . ...

Just have to plug the guys at:

Adria Import Car Service

Mark was fantastic at solving/fixing a frustrating electrical problem. It turned out to be a melted wire connector deep behind the batteries. Thanks Mark!
