Re: H3 LED 5w 460 Lumen
The one thing to note is that a standard 55W H3 bulb is putting out a lot more than 460 lumens, more in the arena of 1400 to 1500 lumens. The LED therefore is going to be a much less substantial light source than the regular Halogen H3. For a bulb replacement, I don't think that 1/3 of the light out...

Re: 1992 Toyota Land Cruiser 80 series VX LIMITED 4200cc Diesel
As mentioned, it's a very good idea to replace the BEBs. We have done many of these, and very few actually show up with problems - but you are taking a gamble with a very expensive engine if you do not update the bearings. The damage is primarily caused by the quality/type of bearing material used a...

Re: Why it's a good idea to install a Pyrometer & Boost gauge
The repairs are in progress at the moment. The costs are actually going to be quite reasonable unless we find that there is other damage to the engine once it's running again. We really do try to keep repair costs as low as possible on these kinds of things, but it does take some time to get the par...

Why it's a good idea to install a Pyrometer & Boost gauge
Customer complaint due to recent changes in how their L300 is driving: Low power, fuel consumption has become worse, smokes more than normal. Driving conditions: towing a trailer up and down the island, pulling the Malahat on a regular basis. Result: Cracked exhaust housing on turbo, warped exhaust ...

Still see this from time to time... education is the key. It would appear, as you state, that some dealers are big offenders.

Re: Alternator help needed asap!!
Just a note that these alternators can be rebuilt by any competent auto electric shop. We have them rebuilt locally on a regular basis, and not once has our local auto electric guy even made one hint that they were different than anything else in his line of expertise. The turn-around time is usuall...

Re: Electric Fan
Electrics are FAR less efficient than engine driven fans - they simply cannot move anywhere near the same amount of air as an engine driven unit will. I disagree. The stock clutch fan on my 2.5 was like comparing a little 2AA battery fan and the Taurus electric fan being an industrial blower. When ...

Re: 94 Delica exceed Auto,56k, * In transit *
hi, this will be a water cooled turbo. for the newer one. it has water temp sensor attached thru injection pump. Cheers; The coolant unit on the injection pump is a wax thermostat used to increase the idle when the engine is cold. That is why there is no hand throttle cable. On some of the Toyotas,...

Re: Electric Fan
Just a few notes from my side of the fence (as a repair shop owner and 4x4 guy): A properly working cooling system does not need an electric fan replacing the engine driven unit. - the fan clutch must be working properly for the fan to drive and cool the rad properly -the radiator must not be plugge...

Balance shaft oil pump exposed... 4D56 undressed.
Here are some photos of a block and the front cover removed. You can see that the balance belt drives an oil pump, that goes up through the pump gears and in turn drives the lower balance shaft. The oil passages go from the oil cooler/oil cover on the right side of the engine to the oil pump on the ...
