I've yet to get to anything in the past couple days, and it looks like things are on hold until early next week. Thank you all for the suggestions on things to try. I'll keep the board posted on what it ends up being, or if I've gone through everything and it's still a no go.
Cheers,
Jason

Re: 4G64b with positive pressure coming out of intake.
Reset everything back to TDC and check your mechanical timing again. I'm guessing you mean the alignment of the distributor after the setting the engine to TDC, or am I reading that incorrectly? If I'm reading it right, I've done this a good number of times to date. I'll try it again just to make s...

Re: 4G64b with positive pressure coming out of intake.
cam 180 degrees out so exhaust is out the intake valves and sucking on the exhaust side? I thought about this, but I don't believe it's the case. The cam has a key that the cam sprocket goes onto, and it will only go on one way. the cam sprocket has a timing mark that lines up with the timing mark ...

4G64b with positive pressure coming out of intake.
Hi All, Relatively new here, but I've been utilizing the site for trouble shooting and ideas for my 1988 US version L300. I've run into a problem after the rebuild that I'm not able to figure out, and am hoping someone will be able to point me in the right direction. A little back story about my US ...

Re: The engine rebuild just got a little more complicated.
Yep, got all the bearings ordered and on the way. Thanks for the link on the use of plastigauge, I've heard good things about using it. I'll have to try it out this time around. My friend in North Carolina has sent the head my way.
Cheers,
Jason

Re: The engine rebuild just got a little more complicated.
Thanks for the vid, didn't know that was how they checked aluminum cast pieces. I'm assuming the machine shop knows how to check it out. I've been talking to a friend about buying one of his, but it's in North Carolina and on an engine. I'm pretty sure the head is toasted; it looks like there is a s...

Re: New to the board, but I've been a long timer lurker.
I've only waxed her twice since becoming the owner. It did make the van look nice, but it's a lot of work. I do regularly wash it, when it's on the road. Right now it's acting as a shelf and storage in my garage until I get the engine rebuilt and installed. Once the engine is back in and running, I'...

Re: G64b lower timing belt cover. Found one!
Well I got the engine apart, and it looks like the #2 cylinder has some damage from a defective jet valve. It looks like the bottom part of the jet valve fell/broke off and was in the combustion camber for a while. There is damage to head and the piston. Looks like the broken jet valve piece got pin...

Re: New to the board, but I've been a long timer lurker.
Thank you. Sadly, it's not a nice as the picture leads one to believe. This is the good side :-). It's got some rust, a few scrapes and a couple small dents. The picture was from a couple years ago, while I was on the coast of North Carolina. I have tried to keep it looking nice, but the years take ...

Re: G64b lower timing belt cover.
Good to know, thanks for the info. I'm assuming if I need another head, I can go with one that doesn't have the jet valves. The site I posted above seems to have lots of parts for my 88, wish I'd found it a couple years ago.

Re: New to the board, but I've been a long timer lurker.
Thanks Falco. I'll do my best to get up to a meet. My van is currently down and out until I get the engine rebuilt, should be done in the next month(fingers crossed).

The engine rebuild just got a little more complicated.
Hi All, I'm hoping you'll be able to help. I've done some searching on this, but have come up empty. I'm looking to replace my lower timing belt cover for my 88 L300(ie G64b engine), since mine is falling apart. It's got pieces broken out and missing, one piece fell in and stopped the engine, but th...

New to the board, but I've been a long timer lurker.
Hi, my name is Jason and I've a 88 L300 with the G64B engine(sadly no diesel). I'm out of Bellingham WA, and have had the van since 2007. I've driven across the country a couple times, been to Burning Man with it and up and down the west coast and in to Canada a whole lot. I've really enjoyed my l30...
