Oh yeah, sorry. They're NZ spiders. It came from another part of the country which is full of the wee critters. They're the most leathal thing in NZ, which is good. Well, apart from the sharks! It's not like Oz where everything will either eat you, poison you, or otherwise find a way of killing you! hehe.

I have been wanted to post this for a very long time - I finally got around to it. Plus I like this topic and thought I'd give it a bump. This is the best artifact ever to be found in a delica: A contextually correct, unopened cup noodle, with non other than arnold himself on the package. The funny thing about Arnold's Japanese TV commercials from that time is they were really quite campy. That Pocari Sweat looks like powerful stuff! I like the "Pocari Sweat is the most appropriate beverage to ease one's thirst that the body needs in the varying scenes and situations in one's life". Kind a like Mitsubishi's "Specially designed for all season outdoor player" on the side of my Jasper.

It's actually in much better shape than Arnie's noodle cup so I may even open it and give it a try sometime when I'm feeling down!

The pink item is a seat belt shoulder pad which comforts me on every ride.

Pocari Sweat is my favorite hangover recovery tool! I couldn't dream of touching the stuff on my first few trips. It is everywhere - in all the hotel mini-bars. As far as I know - a Pocari is a small deer like animal from South America, and well....we all know what sweat is....so I just couldnt bear to consume this. Finally my curiosity got the better of me, and well - now it's the first drink I buy off the plane and always have one handy. It's like a less sweet gatorade....wonderful stuff!

Notice it's made by a pharmaceutical company. I guess that makes it an 'over the counter' drug (or should that be 'out of vending machine' drug?).

I too saw tons of it in Osaka, Nara and Tokyo. Even some mega litre bottles in road side vending machines, just like the Asahi and Kirin.

Neat place Nara with all the little Pocari running around and the world's largest guilt bronze statue of Buddha. Coincidently, my Deli actually has a Nara Mitsubishi dealers tag on it.

I liked the sweat too. It was great on a hot day - not too sweet.
speaking of over the counter pharmaceuticals in Japan . . . when I was there I really, really, really loved this canned coffee which was available in vending machines everywhere (hot and cold). I would look forward to going to work in the morning because I knew I would have one of these fantastic super coffees on my way - "why don't they have such fabulous coffee in cans at home", I thought. When I woke up in the morning, this would be the first thing I thought about.

My bubble was burst one day though when I was telling one of my students how much I loved this coffee. He told me that it gives you lots of energy because not only do they add copious amounts of caffeine, but also nicotine! (which was also true for most of the "energy" drinks available from vending machines.)

I don't know what Japan is like now, but this came from a time when they advertised a special lozenge on TV that helps sooth a throat that is raw from two much smoking. The commercial cut from a suffering "salary man" at a business meeting, holding his throat while surrounded in 2nd hand smoke, to the same man happily smoking with everyone else after taking his cure.

I finally put all the pieces I found together. Thanks Jay for that 'Japanese ass cream' you discovered while wiring the alarm system. The most valuable ones are pearls I believe but I love the service book with the full service history! Oh, and I can start putting my own records in the provided blank one.
