Nice. There are some steep pitches on that road for sure. I was up there myself at the same time. Not quite so far on the other part of the road for me though - more like 100 km return from here :)

Hi, can you e-mail or post where you ordered your head from, which head , any specifics as far as protruding 2mm 1 mm etc. injector size. Were you able to get new head bolts from this supplier, any help is much appreciated, thanks, Mark.

With shipping, worked out to about $600.00. Includes full gasket set. The head bolts aren't stretch type so I reused mine. I'll hang onto my old head with the OEM valves and cam, just in case. The head for our rigs is the protruding type with 22mm injectors. I replaced all my belts/idlers with a Dodge Ram 50 set, and a new Max overdrive aluminum rad.

I have no idea longevity/quality, but then I wouldn't know from any other source anyway. If you don't go OEM, they all come from China is my guess. Time will tell. But recall that the original head only lasted 150K, which is not great. I guess you could wreck any head on these motors by how you drive, from what I've been reading. Cracked aluminum heads is common when overloading turbodiesel engines.

Of course at that price (plus a whole lot of work) you could drive the hell out of it and just factor in a head replacement every 150K or so :)

Hi, thanks for the reply, you are right changing the head every 150k is not that bad might as well do it with every timing belt .
I have just changed the head gasket hoping that it was the culprit it is not that difficult, the money you save on what local mechanics want for a simple timing/balancer swap by doing it yourself will pay for a new head everytime and at least you will know that both belts did in fact get replaced, cheers.

Changing heads on a planned schedule like we do with the timing belts etc. is a bad idea IMO. The head should really last the life of the vehicle, so unless it cracks and needs replacing, leave it be...

Hi Rattlenbang, I just got received a reply from the supplier whose link you sent me and he says that head is a 20 mm injector and not 22mm just want to make sure I am ordering the right one, cheers.
