Mitsubishi didn't do very well, but at least under the Top 10 :)

If I didn't know how hot it is down there I'd say it was the guy standing in the river with an umbrella!
What'd I miss?

Beautiful pics!!

I have never seen a quad in the Dakkar before - is the team using that instead of a motorcycle?? Are they all classified together in the 'bike' class??

There is an extra category for quads.

Is there going to be any TV coverage this year? I haven't seen anything about it. Last year it was on the Discovery Channel I think.

The race is already over. If you want to see a full coverage, just download Eurosport HD torrents.

Great pictures but look like a VW commercial. This is to make the coverage more balanced: :-D

Yeah no kidding: the Touaregs kicked buttocks!
Some were thinking it would no longer look like a KTM commercial once the 450cc rule kicked in, but turns out they were wrong haha!

And the day we get decent TV coverage of one of the most difficult events to accomplish, I'll eat my hat. Not going to happen I think. Bah: let them watch basketball and NASCAR. Not that there's anything wrong with that.
Cheers,
Erik

Hi guys,

If you want to see video coverage of the Rally, http://www.sbs.com.au/dakar keeps up daily video highlights for each vehicle class.

I've downloaded a lot of Dakar 2011 coverage from private torrent sites, and thought I'd share.

In the main folder is the SBS highlights - short episodes covering all vehicle classes for the day.

In the Eurosport folder is longer daily episodes with the same race footage but also interviews with the racers and coverage of the previous day's events. I really like the "what you missed" portions as they show footage of all the racers farther back in the course - so the pros who've had big crashes/breakdowns/stuck, and all the amateur racers. Very entertaining. The day# and stage#s can be a bit confusing, this site lists the dates of the 13 stages http://www.dakar.com/dakar/2011/us/route.html

Files are here http://iis.neverhost.net/dakar/. They should play fine in any media player, I use VLC or Media Player Classic.

Thanks for the reminder, they have just started Dakar footage on Thai TV yesterday!

The scene of Frans descent into Iquiqu over the huge dune overlooking the pacific ocean at the end of stage five; wow that was the most breath taking moment I seen ages. Really, can't compare it to anything recently seen on screen. Held my breath and longed for a Dakar race in my future.....
