So I've read numerous posts saying the l300 has a 75 litre tank, a few saying 70litres and a mere 60 for a manual transmission. Which is it and where do i see for myself ?
I am truly hoping for a 75 litre tank as i have been only getting about 360 a tank (going off the gauge) which is takes about 45 litres to fill which isnt brutal mileage but annoyingly short lived between fill- ups.
I dont know if my fuel light works cause i keep filling up when the needle is on the E and am too afraid to push it without knowing .

Sounds like you've only got a 60 litre tank and it that's the case it sounds like you're driving a manual transmission. Otherwise, you're riding that van HARD!

Dave: There is nothing wrong with the fuel gauge and the warning light works, believe me. Your fuel consumption based on the numbers provided is 12.5 l/100 km which is about 1 l/100 km more than mine (North Van-Langley and around town). Take it easy and you will see the difference. Drive until the light comes on and fill up the tank; you will get an idea how much fuel left.

Does anyone know of or have experience with increasing the fuel capacity of the L300 via mounting auxiliary fuel tank(s)?

I really would like to have a large fuel capacity for those long trips into the woods.

Hey Sergiy thanks for the reassurance. i havent seen the light on yet but the gauge is so low i get nervous and fill up as i constantly find myself in the far reaches of Mission or maple ridge without a fuel station in sight and dont want to risk running out.

Hey Dave Bandwidth, stop driving up those steep hills, move to Richmond then see your fuel mileage improve. For off-road trips I carry a military style plastic jerrican (doesnt spill or stink) that sits only 12 inches high so hides easily inside my deli ... you might not have seen it when we met as I parked into the blackberry bushes.

Just don't rely on the fuel guage. First hint is the yellow light flickers on each time when I whizz around corners (centrifugal force), then later it stays on constant when it really means business, but if you let it go past the constant yellow light then the light turns OFF (after about 50 km for me) but then still another 30 ish km before it won't start when I am parked uphill, until after 15 ish km it won't start at all. I never had to bleed the air (that little pumper handle atop the fuel pump) when I ran out of fuel. My deli is so forgiving of my reluctance to get out in the rain to refuel.

You can drain your fuel tanks to ensure no old crud sitting at the bottom (crud can get into your fuel lines if you run low on fuel), just open the bolt on the bottom of the tank. To re use the fuel, Drain through a filter, into a cube, then let settle a day or so to ensure no water or crud.

My gauge sits at E for 10 km or so before the light comes on , my light comes on with 15l in the tank.

my guage reads E after about 200k but I fill around 470-480 when the light first comes on....I drive the living shit outta my van. Its a 90 l300 auto on 31" a/t tires.....for reference.

I go deep into the toolies; drive auto tranny L300 that has a 75L payload; I carry a twenty litre fuel can as a reserve. Whenever you are in the bush and you come across diesel ~ fuel up, even if you have over three quarters of a tank ~ that extra ten bucks of diesel can make the difference. I digress. Typically I find that between the 75 litres and the 20L jerry can I have enough and the jerry can is a great deal cheaper than installing another tank, never mind the logistics.

Thanks for the suggestions. By longer range, I am thinking for in the lines of an expedition vehicle's type of range say for trips to Dempster highway, Canol Road, Spatziz, etc.

i.e. 500+ miles range (more the better). Yes, putting 2x 5 gal. tanks either on a carrier hooked into the rear tow bar is part of the solution. It would be nice to augment the Delica's internal (too small) fuel capacity. I was think along the lines of removing the spare tire underneath & mounting the spare on a swing bar off the bumper & using the empty space for the additional fuel tank. I just wanted know if anyone as gone that route (if it is even feasible/practical) before.

Maybe my L300 is not the vehicle for this.

although in hindsight, maybe it would have made more sense to mount a swingout fuel tank and leave the tire in its place...

make a 12 inch X 4 inch square bumper that is 6 feet wide and you have a 2 cubic feet = 15 gal (56 litres)?

Nice swinging tire swing on top, couple of recovery points etc...
