Is it possible that a broken fuse affects the glowplugs from working?
I don't have a light that indicates when the plugs have warmed. Recently it takes about 20-30 turnovers for it to start, big puff of smoke, then it runs fine.
Should i enquire about putting a manual switch in? If i don't fix it, what implications will i face? thanks in advance.

I have yet to see a glow plug indicator light on any L300 Ive been in.
Do you hear the system clicking on and off when you first turn on the key? If not then it sounds like a barfed ECU.

Thanks for replies. I am a novice when it comes to anagrams regarding mechanics. ECU and Busbar mean nothing to me, could i bother you for an explanation.
thanks

ECU = Electronic Control Unit. Its in the pillar behind the drivers seat.
Busbar is the piece of metal that attaches all 4 glow plugs together. I've seen some guys build a small wiring harness with individual wires running to the glow plug terminals then connected to the power wire from the glow plug relay.
The reason for the smoke ( black ?) is that when you crank over the engine the injector pump is squirting fuel into the cylinders. The engine isnt firing up on the 2nd or 3rd revolution due to the fact that the glow plugs are not heating up in the chamber. Once youve built up enough heat via pressure it flashes and all that unspent fuel pukes out the exhaust in the form of smoke.
Oya , and I stand corrected on the glow plug indicator light. Thats was the only reason Felix bought Dino

I've heard that the glow plug relay is very faulty in older Delica's... when it goes out it will leave your glow plugs on at all times, eventually wearing them out. If your not getting a click sound about 5-20 seconds after turning the ignition on (before turning over) I would look into this.
