Hello all in Delica land. Im matthew AKA Northvanmatt. I know I don't post a lot but I read and visit the site everyday. My wife calls me the biggest delica nerd! I'm sorry to bug you all but I really feel that this community has grown into quite the gathering place. I was one the 103rd person to join and honestly never ever expected the group to grow so fast and have such knowledgeable and loyal followers. Even though I don't post much I feels like I am part of a very unique group. Thats why I checked with Mark and asked if I could ask all my fellow delica nerds help out with a cause I'm fundraising for. I am a fire fighter in north vancouver and for the second year in a row myself and 12 others from work have put a team in the ride to conquer cancer.

I posted this in members rides because if I'm not in my delica I'm on my other ride my bike. I'll be cycling from Vancouver to Seattle with thousands of other Riders. All the proceeds will go to BC Cancer Foundation to support cancer research, treatment, and services. BC Cancer Foundation is a leading comprehensive institution devoted to cancer research and care, and the work they're doing is cutting-edge.

I've agreed to raise at least $2,500, but I've set my personal goal to $3000. So here's where you come in, because I need your help to do that. You can use the link at the bottom of this email to go visit my webpage. We are doing a lot of fundraising throughout the community and we have many events planned but this ride is a huge commitment. I hate begging for money but I feel very passionate about this cause.

I know it seems like every time we turn around someone is asking for money for a charity. If you have a charity that you contribute to regularly, thats great and keep up the good work. If you don't help me help others by making a small donation to my cause. If everybody I know donates just 25 dollars we can make a huge difference. I've throwin some stats out here read them if you have time but the bottom line is you already know someone or have been affected your self by cancer lets change that!!

When I say "heartbreaking," here's what I mean: according to the Canadian Cancer Statistics 2009, 171,000 new cases of cancer and 75,300 deaths from cancer occurred in 2009. The information also shows that over 45% of men and 40% of women will develop cancer in their lifetime and 1 in all 4 Canadians will die of cancer. That's why I'm riding. To do something BIG about cancer. I hope that you'll share this incredible adventure with me by supporting me in my fundraising efforts.

Thank you so much for letting me post this here If you have any question please feel free to call anytime.

Sincerely,
Matthew Haines

Good for you Matt.
I've got a friend riding and I'm supporting him....but how to refuse a fellow Deli & bike lover????
I seriously considered the ride myself....maybe next year.
Till then - I'll do my thing through guys like you!!!!
Wishing you the best of luck!

Good Morning Sean. Thank you so much for your help. I know it seems like every time we turn around someone is asking for money so I really appreciate you taking the time to support my self and team. More importantly though your supporting cancer research. Which draw would you like to be entered in the star bucks or the liquor store gift certificate. I'll tell ya one of the draws is proving to be a lot more popular then the other one :-D I'll write down your name and e-mail address on the ticket and send you an e-mail if you win.
cheers
