Hey ya'll,
A friend recently introduced me to the Delica's and I want one. I live in Vancouver and have started researching Delica's and have a few questions.
1- Should I buy from a dealer( silk road dealer) or buy privately?
2- What are the most common issues with Delica's?
3- Parts, scarce or plentiful? Are they easy to work on or would I require a shop?
4- Diesel or convert to grease. If I was to convert to grease where can I pick up said grease?
5- Whats the typical price range?
6- Kms, under?
Thanks for the suggestions and comments.
Ryan

Welcome Ryan! A whole bunch of good questions there. I could address each one, but as jfarsang noted, they are covered in detail in the forum. Not trying to blow you off, but rather, there are not "hard and fast" answers to your questions.
For example, regarding dealers - they each have different ratings, and different members have different opinions on each of the dealers. Based on the opinions on this forum (after much personal research of my own) I elected to buy a Delica from Mardy at Amazing Auto Imports. But, that was my decision based on lots of reading this forum! Others have bought from elsewhere, or privately and done well. For example, there are some excellent Deli's for sale in our members sales section.
And, I like you am going grease/diesel as are many other people. As to where to get the grease, well that is a whole topic on it's own. Check out the WVO section of the forum!
(My Delica is still en route from Japan).

Hi Ryan, welcome to our cult. Tell us a bit more about yourself, cuz we're all curious to make sure you deserve a deli. Also tell us a bit more about what you want to do with your deli (keeping comments clean of course), ie if you plan to haul 3 kids around means your needs differ than someone wanting a comfy camper for 2 adults on weekends. Then I can suggest someone with a deli near you, who can show you all the customization they've done, and answer questions. Warning, when I do the Q&A it is at least a solid hour of me talking, and you must crawl under the deli to see each item that I refer to -- we don't just let anyone buy one you know.
Seriously, be very aware of whom you buy from, unless you have $10,000 dollars to waste on unscrupulous sellers -- and they do exist. If a seller is not a regular contributor to this forum, or their postings are not well regarded, that might be a warning flag.
Use the search feature, log in first, then search. You can also search a persons posts to see what else they have to say, click into drivers, then profile, then search all drivers posts : ie for us if you search camp you'll find lots of our posts about camping or camperising our delica. BE WARNED, when we first started researching I spent 4 hours a night for 4 nights speed reading through the posts to educate myself (so make sure you have a tea and wee before sitting down to read).
Look forward to meeting you, watch the forum for a future meet-up, you're welcome to attend -- everyone loves to show off their babies.
Cheers, Christine.
