Hi all, i have finally been able to start working on the Delica (work has been hectic), so i managed to take the fan/fan clutch/water pump pulley off but now i have got to the stage where i have to take the crankshaft pulley off, but i dont know how to stop it from turning. Even if i try and hold one of the timing belt pulleys while trying to turn the crankshaft pulley bolt, i still get a bit of movement on the crankshaft bolt. Where do i go from here?

common method is to put a metal pole through the crankshaft pulley so that it simply CAN'T turn past a certain point.

Visit your local automotive parts supplier. They should have a pulley wrench. It's a piece of square tubing with a fan belt on the end that wraps around the pulley and attaches to the wrench. The wrench backs up and holds the pulley in place while you remove or tighten the crank bolt. Not an expensive part either but also usful to remove/tighten oil filters on the delica.

Impact gun (air tools) pops it off no problem (I have it easy 5 speed just put it gear with parking brake on)

Forgot to tell you that crankshaft bolt is supposed to be changed when it's removed. It's a special bolt designed to stretch under tension and is supposedly one use only.
yes mine was changed when I changed the timing belts and tensioners.

I didn't change the water pump as it wasn't leaking and stilll isn't after 30,000 kms. I examined it after removal and reinstalled it. I changed one oil seal that was leaking.

Air tools are so sweet to use but unfortunately I did it the hard way.

Okay, we managed to get the crankshaft bolt out , then we undid the 4 small bolts, and the pulley came off. But now the two pulleys behind wont come off, so how do they come off, and will we need a puller of some type?

there is a big bolt deep in the center, did my delica timing belts and other stuff recently. that was exactly where my mission came to a schreeching halt. was so tight even with good strap wrench or 2 bolts in puller holes with pipe jammed between no go. 300ft lb impact gun would not even budge bolt (had lock tight on threads). borrowed a brand new Mac 1100 ft lb 1/2" impact and zipped it right off. then used a steering wheel puller. bolt into the same holes where outer pulley unbolted. good luck>>john

Right then, we have been able to find the time again and the crankshaft pulley is off, but there seems to be ALOT of oil behind it. So a couple of days ago i bought a new crankshaft oil seal from Mitsubishi (£23 ), but on closer inspection the oil seems to be nowhere near the seal, but behind it (im guessing this is an oil pump). If so, are the gaskets of the oil pumps known to leak, and can you still get them?

I just want to make sure everything is okay, as it looks like the oil leak is the main reason why the balance belt went.

Are you sure it's oil and not diesel ?

If the IP main seal is leaking, gravity will push it right down to the crank shaft and it will look like it's leaking from there.

Just saw that last week on an L300 in a shop.
