Greetings from Calgary!
Well, after several months of looking around for an L400 that fits our wish list my Husband and I are pleased to be picking up an L400 Super Exceed PE8W from Vancouver this weekend. We can’t wait to finally have of these very cool vehicles! I've hardly seen any here in Calgary....
Just wondering if anyone happens to know of a good place in town to get the Out of Province Inspection done please. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
Cheers,
Sheila

Welcome to the group Sheila, and well met. If you could update your profile to include your location, that will help us later when you are asking "where" questions (I realise in this post you've indicated you're located in Calgary, but I'm thinking of the next time.

There is a growing number of JDMers in Calgary, and I'm sure they'll all come online here in the next little bit to offer assistance. Please don't take your new ride to Kanukistan Wheels as their staff generally don't get enough training to look beyond the make/model of vehicle to see whether or not it complies with provincial requirements (this is the collective voice of experience speaking).

Are you having any of the corrective/preventative work done in the Vancouver area before trekking through the mountains or are you buying 'second-hand' from in-country?

I had good luck with OOP on both my delicas at pro-star auto and RV (located near the franklin c-train station) They also have done OOP inspections for Erebus and Jungle Jon. Seem to be pretty good. excellent customer service.

If you're in the south Kirkham Automotive did a great job on the Falcon!

You've never heard of the Delinnium Falcon? It's the ship that made the Kessel Run in less than 12 parsecs...

Good Morning,

Thanks to everyone for the replies. Greatly appreciated. In response to Mararmeisto the profile has now been updated. Didn't realize I could add this info so good to know. Hope to add some pictures later too. As for wether or not the van is a direct import we actually bought the Delica from Jfarsang who has done some great work on it here in Canada already so should be good to go for the journey home!

Welcome Sheila,

As Green1 said. And Kirkham is great too. Kirkham is good for all maintenance except diesel and turbo work. I think they're now doing most of the routine maintenance for all the Delis in Calgary.

We'll try to let you know when the next Calgary-region meet is.

It was a pleasure to meet Dean and talking with Sheila.

The timing was right and they got a fine example of an L400. I logged over 3,000 km's city/hwy/logging roads to break it in Canadian-style to be certain is was up to Cowtown standards. Pass with flying colours. :-D

This is their new ride. :M

Err..Erebrus, can you clarify this?

And Kirkham is great too. Kirkham is good for all maintenance except diesel and turbo work.

Are you saying that Kirkham wouldn't be a good choice for delica engine work?

I'm also looking delica-friendly/knowledgable places in the South, specifically for an inspection.

Thanks,

Patton

oops. i looked around and now I understand. That for other than the diesel system and the turbocharger, Kirkham is great.

Is there a place in Calgary that people use for the diesel/turbo?

On a steep learning curve here. Thanks.

Nowhere that everyone is happy with.

Stay away from Pro-Active for anything, expensive and often do lousy job.

Stay away from GCL for injection pump work, expensive and often do lousy job, although JMK had good work done.

Stevos seems to be the best bet. Tend to be slow and a little scatter-brained, but seem to do pretty good work.

The only reason Kirkham doesn't do the engine is it doesn't have a diesel-certified mechanic. That said, they might be getting to the point they have enough Delica work that if a diesel mechanic showed up, they'd probably hire him/her.

What I've done so far is find an excuse to go to the Vancouver area and take my Delica to CVI in Richmond.

The Delica is in Calgary now and trekked through the mountains like a charm! Runs excellent and we are so pleased to have such a nice, clean and well kept vehicle (thanks Jesse!). Although both Prostar and Kirkham seem like good places to go in Calgary I ended up taking the the Delica to Kirkham for the Out of Province inspection as it is closer to our neck of the woods. Kirkham staff are pleasant to deal with and seem knowledgable with regard to Delicas. I think we will take it there again for any future maintenance requirements.

The Delica is now an Albertan.

Oh, and thanks Erebus, we would be interested in knowing when the next Calgary region meet is!

Cheers,
Sheila

My registry agent tried to do that, however the Alberta Transportation person sent back a denial saying that only LHD vehicles could uses that process and that I would have to get a full inspection....
