Been reading your forums for a while and thought I'd join up cause all this talk of "minus" temperatures has got me envious




The above is a pic of my Deli, the really nice green one (is green the most common colour in Canada too?), behind is another club member - esandjay, great guy and was the one who got me into Delicas.

They're standard Deli rims those (at least over here)

Good to have you here along with some of your fellow Aussies who have joined, too ~ Jasper & Maddog come to mind. Although we have a couple of bright Canadian members with some experience with the L-400s ~ they are still very new to our shores and we appreciate all the info we can get. We have pilfered Delica Club Aus for info in the past for L-300 specs and I'm sure new L-400 drivers are looking for the L-400 specs now. Still, really glad to have you as members of Delica Canada. Anything to help the breed I must admit I was stunned when I heard about 15yr plus for imports in ca and, I see you generally keep them right-hand-drive too I would have thought the government would have then forced you to convert them!!??

at -20c here, don't get too envious... Delicas don't like this temperature, and humans like it even less...

Canada is an interesting place. We had a Prime Minister by the name of Joseph Philippe Pierre Yves Elliott Trudeau, who was once quoted as saying something like:

"Living next to you is in some ways like sleeping with an elephant. No matter how friendly and even-tempered is the beast, if I can call it that, one is affected by every twitch and grunt."(Addressing the Press Club in Washington, D.C. (25 March 1969)).

Originally, Canada drove on the "other side" of the road until sometime in the 1920s when, I suspect, the change over took place in order to harmonize with the United States Of America. I also suspect that some aspects of the law had been left, creating loop holes that have been beneficial for everyone here, including governmental interests. A lot of "Canada Post" vehicles are Right Hand Drive, as are garbage collection, recycling, street sweeping vehicles ~ to name but a few.

When my father, who was left handed, was growing up ~ he was forced to write in a right handed fashion. This was probably partly due to the nib technology of the time but I also think that it had to do with the majority being right handed and feeling threatened by something different, which in my opinion has been the root to most, if not all "isms" of the human experience.

One of my favourite come-backs to authoritative comments from the peanut gallery who tell me: "Your steering wheel is on the wrong side of the vehicle!" ~ is "Ironically, it is on the right side of the vehicle" . They tend to leave me alone after that.

As far as the 15 year clause is concerned, my gut suggests to me that the American auto groups, oil interests and groups like the "Canadian Automobile Dealers Assoc." have something to do with this. Delica Canada has a forum called "RHD Political and Legal Matters", found under "Purchasing & Importing"; which you might find of some interest regarding this subject.

I too read this forum and become envious of the snow - it's raining here, again, in Victoria and I think it's about 5 above. Will we ever get a winter here this year? Probably a week's worth, middle of January and then that's it!

Six years? Can you buy them new Down Under or do you have to wait a few years as well? I heard it was 5, but that may have changed.

I've seen adds on oz web sites for 2005 model L400 delis..... I don't think there are any restrictions but I haven't seen a D5 yet.

That D5 has been for sale at that yard in Perth for 18 months. The price has dropped $10,000 and still no body wants it.It is the but of a lot of jokes as the dearest Delica in the world...It's dearer than it was new.... Cheers
