This thread is privately moderated by (thread creator), who may elect to delete unwanted replies.
This is the most common rule that spans across almost every internet forum regarding classified/for sale threads.

There has been a poll conducted here with feedback.

It feels like our site is back to normal :M and I personally would not like to see a repeat performance in the for sale area again what has happened in the past.

What is the conclusion ? :M

How do those who don't have moderator status delete unwanted replies? I thought only those of us with moderator control have that ability... are you looking to us to delete unsavory replies? I'm not adverse to the idea, just wondering.

he is proposing that the for sale section be moderated by the thread creator, I believe, and that this disclaimer is what most sites use.

That makes total sense... if it's possible.

Discussion is for-sale ads is healthy. Lets buyers ask questions. Exposes buyers that are trying to pull a fast one.

If you don't like discussion, keep to craiglist kijiji buysell. This is called a discussion forum for a reason.

Besides blatant attacks, there should be NO DELETING on this forum whatsoever. If any posts ARE editted or deleted, they should be marked as such.

PS: It's makes no sense that 2 of the top "FOR SALE AD" investigators are in favor of BANNING replies!!???

Jason

I completely agree.

There is an area in this forum and all other forums labeled either "Off Topic" or "General Discussion"

If you want to discuss, discuss in the 'General Discussion' area.

If you want to sell, sell in the 'For Sale' area.

I have yet to come across a forum that does not give the thread creator the ability to moderate their own for sale/classified thread.

Delica.ca as is the only one to my knowledge although there are probably others, but they would be a minority.

When you mix the two, you get a lot of havoc. That is why most forums today have adopted the rule I posted above.

G'day. The Oz site has NO POSTINGS on "for sale" section except for the seller. Any questions are done via pm. There is no discussion possible. It stops adds getting off topic. We used to have "for sale" posts that would get to 12 pages long because people would go on and on about the pros and cons of a particular car. However, having said that.. people will get stuck into anyone who is less than honest about a particular car. EG.. describing a base model exceed as being "fully loaded"...statements like that get the treatment they deserve..and no rust means NO RUST , not "not much rust".. etc etc..That usually results in a separate thread which is entitled something like " How much rust is NO rust" . Dealers get shafted pretty quick here if they don't behave. Even our site sponsor gets a bit of stick from time to time, usually for being way over priced. He had a 2005 Delica for $49,000 which is almost twice what they are brand new in Japan.. :-D :-D :-D :-D Boy did he cop a pounding about that one. It still gets bought up from time to time .. :-D .. Cheers

I find this absolutely hilarious coming from someone who has consistently refused to answer any questions in his for sale threads, and generally shown his worst side in those threads...

Seems like all you can provide this forum is personal attacks and misinformation.

I'm trying to get a civil discussion going on here.

Will you two hash it out in PM's please ?

I like the idea of post only, no replies in for sale or wanted ads.
If someone is interested they will email, call or pm the person.
I think it's trash to have someone start commenting, lowballing
etc etc on a post.

If someone doesn't like it or wants to chat about it, go to the discussion
forum.

Any other forum i'm part of lets you delete a whole discussion if you
started the discussion in the for sale. That way once it's sold it
can be removed so no more inquiries happen.

People who have problems with a post should pm moderators
not make posts to them which are viewed by others.

Internet makes children of grownups. Something about illusion
of anonymity.

I know its slightly off topic, but I find that in general I do most of my communicating in this forum via PM's. Things just get out of hand here.

Permitting "self-moderated" threads for all would come with both "pros" and some "cons". Potential benefits would relate to the preventing of thread hijacking ("don't buy his; buy mine instead!" type of tactics). A potential downside would be that it allow users to stamp out legitimate criticism/concerns (I would prefer to err on the side of free speech).

At a more practical level, I think we may debating somewhat of a moot point, since PHPBB3 does not at present have a built-in option for self-moderated posts:

What about locking a thread ?

I would like to see for sale thread's as for sale threads and not discussion threads that fill up the 'view active topics' page for days on end.

It gets rather frustrating to have to nitpick the discussions that happen in someone's sale thread and likeminded discussions that happen in the rest of the forum.

I agree with free speech which is why anyone can post anything in the entire forum.
