New L400 owner in Cowtown

Hi Everyone,
Thought I should introduce myself and thank everyone who has provided assistance with some of my questions. I just brought back an L400 from Vancouver on November 12. So far I love it, but there are a few minor issues to take care of. I also want to let you all know how valuable this site is and how much it has helped me already.
This morning it was pretty cold in Calgary and I went out to start the L400 and it fired up right away with no problems (I plugged it in for about 3.5 hours, it has an in-line heater). While I was scraping the windows I remembered reading about some members having problems with their gear box on cold mornings so I jumped in and went to throw it into neutral as I read that this can help warm up the transmission.
Well I could not get it out of Park. I know you need to have your foot on the brake but still I figured I was going to break the shifter off before it went into gear. I quickly ran back into the house and searched the site for this problem and within no time I found a few posts on the subject. I grabbed my hot air gun and warmed up the underside of the cockpit as suggested and then I was able to quickly find the lockout cable and giving it a good pull towards the front of the van. It was a bit awkward but I was able to get it out of park and into gear. Thanks heavens for this site as I was starting to run late.
So now I know what to do if this happens again, but has anyone adjusted this cable to give it a bit more of a pull right off the start as I really needed to pull it a pretty fair distance before it let go of the shifter. It seems to have a fixed cable-end on the brake lever end and it may be adjustable on the other end. Anyone done this? Do you need to expose the steering column or ? and how much can/should you adjust it?
Thanks for any help and I hope to one day to also contribute and not just ask.
Darren
