Paint Code (lower 2-tone)

There is 3 lower colors available on the Delica Star Wagon... Light Silver (Most Delicas), Grey and Light Gold (very similar to light silver but with different hue, most rare).
*** By no means are these the technical names for these colors
Looking for the paint code for the grey?
A photo of the color that I found on the net! Thanks!

You will have to call the owner of the vehicle, unless he gave you his paint code.

Do you have said Delica? As you sit in the driver's seat, you will discover a flap in the carpet between your legs. Behind this flap is a little metal plate with all sorts of information on it... including the paint codes for the van. Copy down these paint codes and take them to an auto paint supplier called "White & Peters", there is one on Pemberton Avenue in North Van. I have a can of the silver, I believe the code is "B45" and has a name, something like Galaxy Blue? I know it had the word "blue" in it, which I thought was quite odd ~ but it is definitely the colour. Also, on my Chamonix the paint scheme is a "base coat/clear coat" system. PM me if you wish.

Hello, Thank you the detailed reply. I am finding this code for someone else. Is the code you Mention... galaxy blue... the same shade of grey in your sig?

To get the exact same colour I would go to Lordco and ask for their colour scanner. They can scan the colour and mix the exact same colour.
I bought a custom mixed touch up paint with the colour code on the vin-plate, but it did not match that well. 15years+ paint isn't the same anymore...

Vehicle has 65k, was garage kept and is like new inside and out. I prefer to have the paint code and tint up from there. Thanks for the tip though. I wonder if they make spray balms too?

They told me it more accurate with the scanner then change the mixed colour.
They have spray cans too.

The van appears to be the same colour scheme as mine. I had it repainted at Ferny's in Victoria. They may have relevant information if you give them a call.

Yes, it is. I don't think it is actually called "galaxy blue", but it had blue in the name, even though the primary ingredient is silver. Having a Chamonix winter package, one of the added features is many clear coats. In one or two of said clear coats is green "pearl essence", which is really what sets the paint job off ~ especially the black upper colour. If we parked the MLB next to a grey bottom Delica ~ then you would clearly see the difference in colour ~ my sig is not a good image to go by.

No image on the internet/computer screen is acceptable as a color comparison since monitors/LCD panel colors differ.

Sorry Felix, but I'd suggest that you don't put too much faith in colour scanners - every now and then they bring up a colour that matches in most lights, but they are usually about 80 - 90% true, sometimes way off. Good place to start, but not the be-all-end-all unfortunately... I spent 5 years playing around with them matching all sorts of different paints.
Still, they're a great starting off point, but I'd suggest that the paint code would give the paint mixer the correct base to start off with, then the colour match should help them draw a correlation as to how much it has changed over the years... as some mentioned above, sometimes it's not much, other times it's oxidised enough that it's way off.
Test & test again... best way... or head to mexico, grab a cheap corona and have mehican paint the lot for you ;)

As a painter: echmm, echmm... As a painter ~ did I mention that I'm a painter?... smiles.
Colour scanners are generally good for getting one into the colour neighbourhood of what you are trying to match, when you have fifteen colours to match that morning ~ but you still have to "tweak" (a technical painter's term) the said colour and do "dry-downs" to get it right. There are different variables one must contend with apart from the actual colour tone, such as the finish, i.e.; the difference between one paint company's idea of high gloss compared to another's. Any colour matcher will begin the colour conversation with a phrases like: "Do you have the code, man?" "Do you know who made the the original paint?" "What degree of high gloss is the paint?"
Another thing one must consider is how much time has the paint surface spent in the sun, during the vehicle's fifteen or seventeen years of previous service? Colour fades. The paint that I had made up (from the code with 6 or 7 ingredients) matched perfectly to the side panels, but not the front or tailgate. I also discovered, when I was having the side door repaired, that that was not the first time that repair was done. We discovered evidence of "bondo" in the finish of the surface being addressed. I would say that a good colour matcher would potentially make a good forensic expert.
If let's say there is damage done to the paint on the side door panel and it needs to be painted to match the rest of the van. The damage is occupying eight by four inches. First the area must be stripped & sanded down. Then it is painted with the base colour (assuming that the primer is fine). To keep the colour and finish consistent with the rest of that colour on the van ~ more that just the eight by four inch patch is addressed. As a matter of fact the new paint job may be extended and fanned out beyond the door, itself. This would fall under the "advanced paint techniques" category.
Then there is the clear coat. How many coats?; how much pearl in each coat to achieve the desired effect? The paint match I had done was for the rocker panels (when I get around to it) so I am not too concerned with the pearl.
If it is just a scratch then one can try using a syringe with a number three catheter to fill the scratch... depends how anal one is about their paint job.

I have a standard jade over silver and I found a perfect match at crappy tire for the silver in the touch up spraybomb rack
"duplicolor -GM LT GREY 047-0327-4"
When I painted my gofast spoiler I took my gas door into Lordco to get scanned and they mixed up the jade and put it in a spraybomb for me for $25 I think, and the color is a perfect match.
