hey guys,
so i landed a pretty good job today.
the job will require me to be in and out of my van all day, so ive been thinking of setting up remote power door locks(using a key all day would get old, very fast).
not really interested in wireless start, but an alarm would be fine.
so i was looking at this, at visions today:
http://www2.visions.ca/Catalogue/Catego ... uctId=1405
i thought the sale price was pretty reasonable.
have any of you guys had any issues with Visions Electronics?
i will get them to install it, and get it working.
im uncertain about the install, as my current power locks aren't working.(fuse is ok)

I have not used Visions before for any work so i don't know if they are good. I would say that if you do not need the alarm portion you could get just the keyless entry for a couple hundred dollars cheaper . $300/plus on sale seems kinda steep .
Hell, get in on the snorkel group buy instead !!
cheers

If you simply want to set up remote locks
goto princess auto. They have a little box
for around 60$ that can set up 4 things.
Locks, rear door, hook to your foglots
and such.
I picked one up a while back but havent'
set it up yet. A nice little attachment for
the keychain.
I can't remember how many hundred feet
distance it works.

I bought a remote system from Princess and use it a lot in my motorhome. It is excellent for turning lights and stereo stuff on and off but wouldn't work as a remote entry/remote start without additional wiring. It could turn an alarm on or off tho... Maybe Firesong bought a different unit(?)
Check out E-bay, "remote start". They have systems for under $10 listed, but I bought item number 400065601639
Under $40 delivered
It has more features than I need or bothered connecting. Works great

Hi Al, Congrats on the new job.
Preferable to just carry stuff in your hand when opening the driver door, then hurl it into a crate in the passenger area while waiting for the glow plugs to click off.
As to remote locking, sounds like a bit of a nightmare to get a non-delica system to work, heaps of time and energy expended. Just carry the deli key on zippy string clip attached to your pocket (rather than a bulky set of keys) and lock each door after you put stuff in the back. Does your rear door lock work from inside, if so then just load unload from the back door.
Jay finally discovered why my sliding door remote lock wasnt working, he had drilled a hole thru (THROUGH) that wire when installing my kitchen battery (and that's why one should never drill holes in thine deli, eh).
Cheers, Christine.

my rear door lock works fine.
however with my rear tire carrier, it would be a real pain to open the carrier every time i need to put something in the van.
wish my other locks worked as well as my rear electric lock...

The remote unit from princess auto isn't a car starter.
The original thread starter said it wasn't necessary.
Princess auto has the unit on for 30$ right now.
Saw it last thursday when I was in getting a grease gun.
It handles 4 things.. ie. locks, rear lock, lights, and...
but no remote start.
Just on their site and there are two options. I think there
is a flyer out which isn't showing here (I bought the 2nd one with
out remote start):

http://www.princessauto.com/truck-trail ... ord=remote

Don't know
Wasn't the point of posting it.
Just showing they have one.
He was originally wanting something to open door locks.
Starting was optional

We bought a remote car starter/door unlocker from visions. it was on the clearance table. The unit itself was free and all we had to pay for was installation. We opted out of the starting feature and only went for the remote door lock and it cost us less than $75.
