Sorry, I know this is the Delica forum, but I couldn't find a Canter forum to annoy with these questions, and I own a Delica, which is why im on here anyways, plus i know that there have been some other Delica.ca members who have owned canters, so here i go (thanks for the answers in advance!):
how closely related or not to the L300 engine are they?
is it the same as the deli in terms of shoulder straps? ie: 1992 and later in the back of the king cab?
are they all manual transmission?
are they all 4 wheel drive full time?
And if anyone (and i know that there's a few importers on here) would like to help me out to find the right canter that suits my needs, im all ears!!!
here's what i want: 4x4, king cab, shoulder straps in rear, color not important, any type of industrial function is cool, but not necessary, ie:former fire truck, telephone company vehicle, dump truck, cement truck, lift, etc....mort important is great mechanical condition and reasonable price....

I asked this of the canter guys at one point, and the answer I got was that they are both Mitsubishi diesels, and that's about as far as the similarity goes.

This I don't know.
are they all manual transmission?
They come in both manual and auto
are they all 4 wheel drive full time?
They aren't all 4 wheel drive at all, but 4 wheel drive is an option on them.

The Canter I imported in Aug, was a 2 ton. 2 wheel drive, dual wheels, hydraulic dump, single cab, manual transmission, 3.5l diesel and a 24Volt electrical system. It is a 91 model, and had 19,000km on it. Fantastic truck

Hey Jason, is it a turbo model, or not? If not, how does it compare in acceleration to the delica?

i saw canter upto 1995 and they don't have shoulder seat belts. Depending on which canter you buy ( many variations), 4d32 or 4d33 so far (4.2L) the best i have see, they are non turbo but true work horse. can not expect too much acceleration ( on 2 ton double cab top speed will be around 100)

The 3.5l I imported, is non turboed, it accelerates very well, as good as my l400, but I think the pump on my l400 may have been "touched", it'll lay rubber for about 20 feet from a stand still on clean pavement. Anyways back to the canter, power was good. I drove it from BC to Manitoba pulling a U-haul auto transport with my l400 on back. The truck will do 120km, but feels most comfortable at about 95km. (it would do the 120km with the trailer and l400 in tow) I was quite impressed, as the truck is not large, about the size of a full size 1/2ton. The current owner of the truck is averaging 22mpg using it as a garbage truck (lots of idling, and stop & starts). The canter also had an exhaust brake that worked beautifully on those hills you guys have out west. Cab comfort was slightly lacking, but the trip took me 36hours, (3 of those hours were spent sleeping in the Delica on the trailer in some truck stop by Lethbridge AB). All in all the canter is an excellent truck.
