I have test drove an L400 and the lights keep flashing even when it is in 2wd. I have tried backing it up for a distance and still flashing. Would it be a sensors, hub or the transfer case not releasing or unlocking the axle from 2wd?? Or just forget about it and look for another L400 instead. Thanks guys.

common problem, all sorts of posts about it on the UK site, I seem to think your first step in troubleshooting is to cycle through the whole 4wd system and back again (ie. all the way to 4LC, drive forwards a ways, then back to 2H, forwards a ways, and then back a ways)
If that fails it could be a sensor thing, or a component not unlocking properly

It's common
remove the dash console, unplug the 4x4 plug, clean it and plug it back in

could also be from having your front end worked on, I know that my first one does this after swaping to manual hubs.

Yes, same problem here. I recently purchased an L400 that shows the front wheels flashing on the dashboard when in 2wd.
I know that in the UK forums, vacuum solenoids are often brought up. Any forumers here have experiences to share?

On top of the transmission there are a few connections that you can screw out. You need to locate the correct one, remove it, take the washer off and put on a thinner washer so the switch sits in a smidge further so it registers correctly. I cant remember which one is for the front hubs but a quick search of oz site will tell you..My Jasper started to do it a year or two back. It is a simple 15 minute fix.. There is a shaft that moves around inside the transmission and pushes on a captive ball bearing in the bottom of the switch the shaft gets a bit of play in it so by removing the washer and replacing it with a thinner one, it allows the switch to connect to the shaft .Make sense?? This fix can be used to sort out a few different transmission sensor faults.. I think I did it to get rid of the center diff lock light staying on.. Cheers
