Hello! New Delica owner intro/questions

Hi There,
Just bought a 1992 Delica exceed from 5 star auto yesterday. Paid a decent price and I'm happy with the service. Woke up this morning however and noticed a oil/diesel patch on the drive way. After being re assured that it was clean and serviced by Glen at ccauto. It's not overheating or any other noticeable problems but after I got home from work this evening I realized it must have had a leak the night (last night) I brought it home as well. If you look up towards the engine behind the drivers side wheel the back of the block leading down to right below is wet. Not gushing or anything but it's losing something for sure. I'll contact them in the morning and I'm sure they'll back there product as the whole experience was very good and they assured me it was in top notch condition. Must have just missed it somehow I guess?,. not sure as I'm not that mechanically inclined but still frustrating none the less. Anyway I'll post an update and pics once I get some, drives nice and smooth otherwise and already planning a surf/camp trip to oregon with the girlfriend and dog. Let you know what happens tomorrow!

From the description you gave it sounds like the valve cover gasket at the rear of the head is leaking. Chances are its the half circle part - they are famous for that. Every overhead cam engine will do it from time to time.

Quick fix it to remove the valve cover and clean off the mating surface on the head where the gasket goes, especially at the rear. Might be an idea to grab a new one from CCAuto. Take some Permatex gasket goop and give it a light coat down in the groove. Place the new gasket in position and install the valve cover, and be sure not to torque the nuts down too tight. You don't want to compress the gasket too much ( which usually causes the leak in the first place)

If you just bought it and it was fully serviced, call 5 star, I would expect them to have you take it to ccautos and have it fixed up at no cost. At the very least that is what I would have done before posting here as some might see this and come away from it not trusting 5 star or ccautos when it is likely just an over site that they will fix right up.

I'm sure they will take care of it and I did say I trusted them and had a great experience. Just to clarify 5 star was a pleasure to deal with and I have no doubt that they'll do the right thing. Was looking for more info on maybe a quick fix or if some owners maybe have experienced the same type of leak as I had just noticed it and they were not open to call. Please in no way take this as a slag on Five Star cause it's not.
