hi everyone, thought it was time I said hi. I've been nosing around for a couple of months now and just got my L300 a couple of weeks ago. My wife a I just love it! Exactly what we needed with 2 kids a dog and daily adventures in the mountains.
The information I've recieved already has been invaluable. I already cranked the torsion bars to get a more level ride and I love the look. Next will be the 31's and a hitch. Yesterday smoke started billowing out the engine bay. It has a harness for a hitch already and that wire (wired upto the battery) burned through the plastic and damaged a few other spots. Could have been bad but it's been solved now. I'll be going to cc autos next week to see the deli guru, which I'm looking forward too. Getting a delitune.
I do have a question about the dual battery. What does this do to "winterize", and how does it draw power. Is it equally or is one accesories and the other for the motor. Does it last twice as long if I were to drain it ?
Anyways thans again to everyone. I work as a chef at the old roadhouse in squamish across the road from shannon falls. It's now callled the copperhouse and is a huge improvement. A great place for a deli -meet. I'm almost always there. Oh! and I gotta get me a mitsumaple. Anyways I'll be around parksville next week, I'll be sure to wave.
cheers Matt

Hi Matt Fozzie,
Welcome, glad you love your deli. This is Christine of the TardisDeli in Burnaby. We would love to meet you, we often camp the squamish back roads. Would love to organize a deli meet in Squamish, and have the group buy food at your CopperHouse (better than our usual Deli-Meet meals at McD's).

Jay of the TardisDeli is the Battery Guru and can easily explain your system, and quickly verify how yours is wired to answer your questions, and help you rewire if you need (and he loves steak...medium rare). He's away rigging a tub for the upcoming Nanaimo Bathtub race, so I will answer you.

Your smoking wire situation is not good, and not usual. Carry a 10 BC fire extinguisher, till you get it checked out. Was it the "fusible link" above the battery, which is 4 wires curved together through a small plastic box (about 1 to 2 inches wide), or where? Were you running a large draw item, ie a portable 12 volt cooler, or inverter? Or high power headlights? Or just loose wiring on the battery connector? Beware, small wiring is at least 15 years old, and the cigarette lighter sockets are only designed for a few seconds of use. We installed separate 12 volt power outlet with heavy guage wiring for fridge etc.

Your delica dual battery typically is just the same as a single battery, you drain it-- you don't have a spare. Given the tiny space available for batteries, the choices are limited. Yes 2 will have more CCA Cold Cranking Amps than 1, but we use 1 large 27 series instead of the 2 small 24 series which gives more CCA oomph and can take more deep discharges than a 24. Deep discharge is the clue, ANY battery has limited number of times it can be recharged, especially if the battery was run down to dead (aka deep discharge). Lead acid is fine, don't buy expensive fancy ones, but do need quality (determined by invisible guts such as thickness of the metal plates). One can install an isolator (expensive) or a switch (cheap, but you have to think for it), to create an starting battery isolated from the "house"/camping battery, especially those going on treks without herds of other deli's to jumpstart. Also, good idea to install separate 12 volt power outlet for coolers etc.

Hitch recommended for supreme strength is the E&H hitch in Burnaby. I see Mararmeisto is soon to sell his, PM him asap, save $550 installed price. Then get your local welder to weld it on (can copy the weld points from ours). We tow big boats, and use the hitch basket rated to carry 500 pounds for overflow camping firewood and giant tarps when we organize group Deli CampOuts.

Glad you're going to CVI, Butch and Edwin are great. On the island, drop by CC Autos (Coombs Country Auto) www.ccautos.ca/about.html for location map, down a windy country road. But Glen And The Lads are super experts. Dump the family at Coombs Market with goats on the grass roof for their meal and shopping, and you go enjoy CC Autos, unless of course your spousal unit also enjoys the Delica Zen of standing in Glen's huge yard staring at delica's that arent moving -- ooh look at the curtains in that one, ooh that one's gas not diesel, ooh that one looks like it had a bad owner, ooh look at that neato accessory.

I will also send you a PM Private Message so you can learn to use that function.

Cheers, Christine.
