Hi,
Can anyone recommend a business that welds aluminium in the Whistler/Vancouver area?
My son Pete has lost a chainstay on his Sunn Radical where the tubing is welded to the casting. I know it won't be heat treated properly,but it might hold up until he gets a new chainstay shipped over from France!
Thats the trouble with posh stuff, you can't bodge it!

Try asking on VIMB.COM or NSMB.COM they are mountain bike specific sites and would likely have a better bead on that specific work.

Don't do it! It won't hold and could result in catastrophic failure on the trail.

To do it properly, it would have to be treated before welding, then re-heat treated after, which is definitely not worth it, for just a chainstay.

Find a loaner till the stay arrives and save the injury.

Thanks for the advice. I will pass it on. I did wonder about the heat treating. I will get him to park it up. At least it will stop his injuries for a while!

Yup, that is right. Chances are it will not survive and could lead to a bad wreck. The local bike builder here in Cobble Hill (Berg Bikes) has warned me about similar fixes to a friends bike.
