Overdrive stopped kicking in

I noticed yesterday that the overdrive has stopped working on my 92 deli. Could it be the solenoid switch or something more? I guess i'll need to take her to Coombs again, sigh... Is it likely to be an expensive fix??

Have you checked the fluid level lately? By the way, I moved your post into "L300 Technical".

Just did that... it was a bit low for sure.. I measured with the engine running,, Hmm, what can cause that? Mebbe I should have the trannie flushed completely?

What colour was the tranny fluid? If it wasn't remotely pink then I would flush it and change the filter. I have flushed my tranny a few times, it was brown, now it's closer to pink. A pink tranny is a happy tranny!....
Seriously, if the fluid is brown then it is old and toasted and likely evaporating. These machines will last you the rest of your life, so long as you do your bit, i.e.; maintenance.

Hi, my name is Christine, and Umm, well... here's my confession ... on how I fixed my Delica overdrive not working ... honestly, my solution was to click the shifter (automatic) back into Drive (I had it in second gear going up the "cut" -- a very steep hill), this happened several days in a row every time I went up the hill in morning rush hour traffic, now I know better ... just leave in drive. Hey, I was busy singing along to the stereo, couldnt hear the engine whining in 2nd gear, and I hadnt drunk my mug of tea yet (everyone reading this shaking their head in dismay ... and we let her lead the convoy on Delica Camping Trips, duhh). Cheers, Christine.

Ha..that's a little embarrassing, but brave to admit :)
Mine still ain't werkin..oh well. I'll have to take it somewhere I suppose. Any recommendations for somewhere around Victoria? Since it's not something supercritical, maybe taking it all the way to Parksville isn't necessary?

my deli had a very similar problem. the kick down cable had come loose at the throttle boddy linkage, being loose the overdrive did not work for 2 days before trans symptoms became worse. I suspected much worse problems then a missing cotter pin.

So, I go and check the oil the other day.. I look at the throttle mechanism, and notice that there was a nut that came loose on the linkage.. Ok, I tighten her up, and all of the sudden my MS Bitchi wasn't Bitchi no mo'.. Wht didn't I check that out before? Going up the Malahat at a top speed of 60kms on the uphill was embarrassing.. the straight aways were fine, and I kept up.. She's got oomph again tho... :) I'm totally happy and am rewarding her with a rustproofing undercoat today :)

On the tranny fluid line of thought. Is anyone using remote mount filters for tranny oil on these rigs? If so how is it working out, what
part numbers ?
