Hello All,
Time to get rid of the gas hog Ford and I like what I see about the Delica 4x4. Any idea how much longer the "Long Royal" is?
Cheers,
Dave

I'm not sure any of us have the "Long Royal," but there are a couple of long-wheel base vans here in Canada. They seat 10 and are 4675 mm in length (compared to 4275 mm). I didn't know the big ones had a name, other than L300. Also not sure if it's only gasoline or if it comes with the diesel engine.
Regardless, it is probably both shorter than your big ol' Ford and it will get better fuel economy.

are you talking about am L300 or an L400? I have never heard the term "long royal" before. there are Royal exceeds in the L400, but that is just a trim level designation. I know they made L300s in LWB but I don't think the delica L300 ever came LWB. The L400 delica comes in both LWB and SWB and from what I here the SWB is the rare one.

Thanks for the info. I came across the long royal thing on a site I was looking at. It was a '94 diesel and I think it seated 8 so I'm guessing it's an L400 LWB? Had me wondering. I just found this forum this morning and I must say I'm impressed; great job!

Howdy neighbour, we and our TardisDeli live in Burnaby near Gaglardi exit.
Royal is an L400 Model, so most of us havent seen one, as you will see in the photos online we usually have the L300 Star Wagon. The L400 only became legal to import this year. I clicked into the Search button on this website, and typed Royal, and lo find this post from Mardy (a good person to deal with) at Amazing Autos in Richmond who had one for sale. Mardy had a Deli-Meet not long ago to show this group the new-to-us L400's, so he would be a good resource person.
Here is the excerpt:

1994 L400 Delica Spacegear 2.8L inter cooler turbo Diesel, 4m40 engine, 4x4, Royal Saloon Model 127,000Km, mint condition. Automatic, with crystal lite roof, A/C, all shades work, roof and under carriage no rust, long wheelbase L400.very Clean Spacegear, with ...
I vaguely also recall a post (maybe from Laura) mentioning seeing Royals used everywhere as tourist buses when she was vacationing. If so, as with any ex-commercial vehicle beware high mileage, worn suspension, multiple drivers who didnt care about babying their own vehicles, etc.
Search the UK and Australia Delica sites for more info on L400, to find what people love / hate about the L400's, as they have had them longer.
If you want to see our L300 and listen to us cheerfully babble about the joys of being part of the Delica L300 cult ...er family ... then come by our home. Ours is set up for weekend camping and boating year round (inverter for the electric blanket and microwave etc).
Cheers, Christine.

Hi Christine,
Thanks very much for both the insight and the invite! Sorry for the late reply but I am in the midst of a lot of upheavel at present. I hope things will settle down in a few weeks. I would very much like to see your van and learn more about the Delica.
Thanks,
Dave
