slow acceleration, no power on hills

hard to start, but my engine idles fine, and i can get up to speed (100kp/h) but its slow getting there. if i feather the throttle, and encourage shift changes that helps too. up hills no more than 30kp/h.
i changed the fuel filter, no help.
this is strangely similar to what started happening on WVO while on my return from mexico. i thought i had that solved, but it started again.
the throttle cable is unobstructed.
sounds like adams problems here
http://www.delica.ca/forum/won-t-rev-ov ... -3696.html but since that thread is relatively inconclusive i thought id post up here and see if theres any more ideas

I would suggest an IP adjustment ~ tricky stuff, but Butch at CVI maybe able to help you on this. Also could be affected by your kick-down linkage adjustment.

try to run the engine with straight diesel first & see from there maybe you still have some wvo inside your pump, then try the linkage if loose or the accelerator cable is loose & the kick down cable is loose.
cheers;

Injectors need a clean? Deli Tune?! I was suffering from the above mentioned symptoms but not no more, CVI all the way!

i had the timing on my IP set in december before i left for mexico.

i havent let WVO into the system for several days and many KM's.
ill go double check the all the cables and linkages. lets hope its that simple!

i installed brand new injectors about a month ago.

You could try to take your diesel fuel filter out and pour the content, you'll see if it's pure diesel or a strong mix of veggie. That could explain the hard start but decent idling.
I'm not sure about your tune up, sounds like you've got it covered with new injectors...
I also had harder start than usual but then it would work fine. Not as much power as usual but ok up to 100km/h. After that I think it would become a pig. Also, my EGT were way up even cruising flat on the hwy.
I got a delitune (timing, valves and cleaned injectors). I also drained both my diesel tanks and changed my diesel filter and Voila! Now it starts and runs like a champ and EGT is down where it should be. I can't say how much veggie I had mix with the diesel but looked like a lot. I know I had mix too much in the winter but stopped mixing all together and ran my tanks almost empty, refilled on diesel only a few times but still have quite a content of veggie when I remove the filter and drained my tanks.
I'll be draining a few liters from my tanks every few months to see how much veggie makes it way to my diesel tank (without pre-mixing), if any it'd be from purging my system but we'll see.
This might not help much but good luck anyway!

one thing you could check is maybe your linkage from the turbo to the watsegate has become disconnected so you are basically turbo-less which i have seen happen. easy to check lie on your back and shine a light up to the turbo side of the engine and give it a visual.
maybe, and its an easy fix.
sid.

sounds exactly what i have, and iv never run any sort of WVO, so maybe its not related to that at all...

my system allows very little if any wvo back into the diesel tank
i had a look at the linkages near the turbo.. looks fine
keep em coming! hopefully its an easy fix...

Hmm, so how many kilometres have you run since you redid the timing before leaving to Mexico?
Falco.

got the injection pump replaced at coombs country auto. it cost my first born child, but since i dont have kids and probably wont i had to give an arm and a leg!
but im stoked to be driving the space antelope again! it runs super! i sincerely hope that the IP rebuilders will give us a clue as to the exact nature of the failure, esp considering its happened to more than one veggie van.
im lucky this didnt happen when i was in mexico or on the return! it started on WVO and then eventually became problematic on diesel, which to me suggests a restriction or sucking air...

Hey,
Did you have a full IP rebuild previous to the problem or is it the first big RE and RE
since you had the van (other than the new injector and timing)?
Wondering if the IPs are just tired from the years.
Would love to know what was the cause too,as I slide greasily toward
greasiness.
Kinda pricey to have to pack a spare IP for big road trip, but maybee
its a good idea. So cool it did not pack it in on your trip for sure!
Right on!
Good to hear you are back up and running!

according to the folks CCGlenn sends the IPs to, the camplate and the cam wheels inside the IP were completely destroyed.
this is caused by lack of lubrication. interesting because i run WVO which is a lubricant, and i added lubricant most of the time when running diesel on my trip to mexico
now according to glenn, water present in WVO can actually dry out the IP
here are my thoughts about that:
now i have a hunch that the camplate and wheels were worn when the van came from japan. i base this on the fact that i always had a slight power loss on WVO. that is, until i got a new IP. now the power is the same wvo or diesel. same for the other three WVO covnersions i have done
perhaps there was water present in WVO i collected along the way to mexico. or even the diesel i bough there.
i have driven somewhere around 20,000 KM on veggie oil, the bulk of that on the trip down and into mexico
i wonder if this discussion should move over to the wvo forum?
