separation anxiety

I just dropped my Delica off to have a new stereo and an alarm installed, I trust the shop and chose them specifically because of this, however every time I have to give it to someone else I always worry.

I guess this is normal with any vehicle, but at least with my previous car I could console myself in the fact that they've probably worked on hundreds of them before, and even disregarding that, it was still a north american vehicle.

now I have all sorts of thoughts of "will they know what to do with this particular type of diesel (remote starter)?" and "will they be ok driving it to get it in to the shop etc (RHD)?"

I think I'm just paranoid... but somehow even though i just left it there I miss it already...

paranoia

I had a friend once, who dropped off his landcruiser for a stereo install and they burned it to the ground with the soldering iron that was left on inside.
Another friend's brother took his Carmanghia to get his heater core replaced and they cracked his dash bezels. A week after he got it home, a pinched hose sprayed hot antifreeze all over his leather interior. What a stink.
And there was this one time, my brother's fiance took her beemer in for service and it came back with 300 more miles on it than were on it when she dropped it off. There was also a big ketchup stain on the upholstery...

Nah, I'm full of @#it. Just giving you the gears!!!
I'm paranoid too. And so are some of the shops you deal with. They would rather someone else risk damaging hard to find trim and so forth.
I got a ridiculous deal on all my audio/video stuff for my Deli - simply becasue I was willing to do the labour myself. They gave me some advice, let me use there shop, gave me a great deal - perfect. All because they were too scared to work on it.
I'm sure your baby will be just fine, but make sure you doa thorough inspection of the vehicle when you pick it up.

well, I got my baby back safe and sound... though not quite as fully upgraded as I had hoped for... apparently they got stumped on running a wire for the actuator for the central locking on the driver's door, so I told them I'd run the wire for them when I get a chance and get back to them...

apparently they also got a good laugh at one of their techs... they told him to take apart the driver's door to mount the actuator, and he had the whole left side door in pieces before the shop owner came by and said "no! the OTHER driver's side!"

They took apart the wrong door and couldn't figure out how to get a couple of wires into the dash for the actuator??? And now you (not a professional istaller) have to do it for them?

I didn't know Wal-Mart was installing electronics these days.....

Sorry, couldn't resist!!! ;)

well... the wrong door bit is funny... though it does make one wonder...
the not getting a wire in to the door had nothing to do with the wrong door thing, but basically they said it would cost me a lot more if they had to run the wire in to the door, so I said I'd do it... I would have done the whole install myself, but my insurance company won't give me a discount for having an alarm fitted unless it's professionally installed.
