I had a pajero swb about 2 years ago only owned it for about 3 months but only used about 4 weeks total until i had an unfortunate accident with it and have wanted another one ever since. But i am trying to decide if i want to go with a lwb or swb again. and if i should go for the 2.5 or the 2.8. reading a few things on this forum some are for the 2.8 but they have head problems like the toyoata 2.4, but have more power. So what i am really looking for is an affordable capible 4x4, i won't be doing anything to hardcore or rock climbing but at the same time i wanna be able to do moderate stuff, i don't wanna be one of these guys who throws their suv into 4 wheel drive when it rains. i also want something that is good for camping, hence the idea of looking at a lwb, but would it be less capible and not as able to get into the place the swb can get into. One thing aswell can anyone tell me a good place to get work done one of the issues i had when i did own a pajero was the clutch and input shaft went, needless to say it took a long time to fix and was less then cheap. So one thing i will defenetly do befor buying another MT is get them to rip apart the clutch to make sure it is good. but other then that i had no complaints it went through sand, loose sand with no problem. but i would like to hear some insight from anyone who has done any serious or moderate 4x4ing and used it for camping. so please if you have any good input or know a good dealer/importer and repair shop the help would be greatly appreciated
cheers
steve

Where are you based, Mouse? If you are in the Lower Mainland area then CVI is a good shop to get work done. There is also Japanoid in New Westminster. There are many other shops that are credited with good work on these vehicles but those two know them well. There are also a number of dealers in the Lower Mainland area ~ see dealer ratings:
Take a look around this site and you will find many answers for many of your questions.
As far as SWB vs LWB: SWB definitely wins. You can turn a smaller circle. As far as power ~ I drive a Delica and apart from keeping her tuned I have not done anything to the engine. She has a 2.5 4D56T(turbo), with no inter-cooler and the van weighs 2,350 kg ~ I seem to get anywhere I want to go.
Hope this helps... smiles.
Falco.

Hi
I've got a 92 SWB Pajero on a 2.5 TD engine with intercooler and LOVE it. Been up some pretty rough logging roads with no problems at all and other than basic, preventitive stuff like changing the cam belt, oil & filter changes etc it's been faultless. I just added a towing hitch (Burnaby Hitch) who incidentally did a great job.
Anyway, I wouldn't hesitate in recommending the SWB to anyone. I've shown mine to tons of people at work and not a single person believes its 16 years old. I got mine from Tyee Imports on the Island but you can get them locally as well...Japanoid for example.
As for regular maintenance, I get mine serviced at New Way Auto in Burnaby....they're just around the corner from Holdom skyrain station on Douglas. 604 298 7759. I've never been shafted by them and they've always looked after me. They're getting used to the truck now...and I've seen a few other imports there too (so word must be getting around).
