Heya,

My new-to-me delica appears to have an alternator issue(only getting 8-9 volts @ alternator, even with rpms up).
I have browsed through as many previous posts on this as I can, but I have to ask: where can I get a new one? Does anyone know if this part is available domestically? I have heard that a lot of the peripheral parts for this engine are compatible with the Dodge Ram 50.......

Hello and welcome. The post above outlines what I would do if I had issues with the alternator. This is possibly a mute question but did you check you battery as of it came with the battery from Japan there is a good chance it is bad too. You can also get it rebuilt here in Vancouver. Feel free to contact me if you have further questions.

Ciao,
Daniel

hola aaron.

for all your part needs at very reasonable prices contact Glenn at Coombs country auto. It is easier to contact him by email than phone, but here's both.

Alternator is generic. It's not Delica-specific.

Just take it to any alternator shop and they'll fix it.

The voltage regulator often goes in the stock one's. Common issue. Same symptoms as yours.

$150-200 max for a rebuild including the volt regulator and bearings.

Thanks 4 the quick response! Two brand new heavy duty batteries recently installed. Not sure if I can get alternator rebuilt locally. I'm trading voicemails with Glenn, sounds like he has a couple in stock....

Hey

Right next door to Davidson's batteries on Broadway! 532 E Broadway. They'll sort you out and no shipping and hassle. Glen is great for parts but this you can get done locally.

Let us know how it goes,

Tks for the info - and will Broadway to the Re&Re or just the rebuild alone?

Hey,

Problem solved! Glen had me covered at CC Auto, but after 2.5 hr removal yesterday, and a bit of driving today I have a working alternator! Rob at Shuswap Rebuilders in Salmon Arm (250-832 -8724 ) replaced the brushes, same day service. Thanksfor your input!

I had the alternator on my pajero go twice and once on our 1st Delica.

Once because the original voltage regulator blew. It happens.

2nd time was because I wasn't smart enough the change out the batteries (from Japan) and they took out the voltage regulator again.

I had the alternator rebuild (brushes/bearings and new voltage regulator) at two different places in the lower mainland.

Pajero was an alternator shop on the langley bypass and Delica at a small no-name shop in richmond when I got stuck.

Both times, the guys have never seen a Paj nor a Delica, nor knew what they were.

They both said that they fix any alternator unless it was imported from Mars.

I called around and the consensus is that this alternator in our Delica's are not unique. They are generic alternator with a little sump in the back (other manufacturer's do this as well).

So if you have any alternator issues, don't be afraid to take it literally anywhere.

They can and will be able to repair it.

The voltage regulator on it is not mitsu specific.

Hope that helps.
