Seems since its got cold my fuel consumption has gone through the roof. 53 litres today got me 375 kms, and that was 70% highway. With that much highway driving and from 53 litres I would usually easily get 450kms. Its driving just the same. The only thing I've noticed which is sort of weird is on different occasions at a particular speed it will rev at different rev counts. eg 105km/h - 2750revs and then another time at the same speed it will read 2900revs.
Also it been idling faster than it usually does. Today at full operating temp it was idling 750revs which it has never done. The most its ever idled at is 700.

Any suggestions?

Oil?

Fuel filter?

They change the diesel in the winter.

You fuel mileage will drop a bit. That's normal.

I just remembered something, the fella where I get my oil changes done said he put that Lucas oils stabilizer in(did an oil change on friday)

Making 15/40 oil even thicker yeah,(in the cold no good huh)

As far as the winter deisel would it effect my fuel consumption that much. By like 75 kms plus?

Not by that much.

I drive it easy. No more than 105km/h

Last tank was easy 70 percent hwy. Surrey to abbottsford everyday. I could almost watch the needle on the fuel gauge going down.

About that lucas oils stuff that was put in, shold I get it out of there?

25,000 RPM?? Did you stick a turbine engine in your Delica? (hey that is not a bad idea)

25000 rpm and only doing 90 kpm ?? You must be burning up the back tires!! I have used Jet A in Duke and I can say that I've yet to go beyond the red line Oh ya, my mileage has gone down since the change to winter fuel too, but not that much. But again, the winds do make a difference.

Must be the fumes!

You should be running 10W30 diesel oil... the heavier the oil, the worse your fuel economy. There's no need to run oil stabilizers if the oil is of even moderate quality.

Diesel in the winter is drier and thinner - good to run a lubricant in the fuel. It will also have less energy so a few percent less economy.

Snow and cold will cost a lot in the fuel economy department. That's normal - all the electrical accessories will draw more power from the engine. Rain and snow will add to the rolling resistance and reduce economy.
