My Filter setup

I let the oil settle for about a week, then I pour it through the bed sheet to filter into the first barrell. I heat it for 48 hours or more then I send it throught the first filter (top one in the pic) filter it to 30 microns, it pumps into the second barrell. I repeat the heating, then send it through the second pump, through the 10 micron filter (lower filter) and into the gas station style pump. I used 2 pumps for ease and to reduce the strain on one pump. I installed a front drain valve and shut off valves prior to the pumps, so I can change the pump if it breaks down without having to drain all my veggie.

Thank you for posting with your set-up !
I am working on a single barrel with a centrifuge right now. I just got a bunch of fittings and hose today from Newline hose and Fittings.

How well does the bed sheet filter ? I need to get my oil down to 400 microns so i can run it through the centifuge. If a bed sheet or pillow case will do this then that would be great. Anybody have any idea how far down the sheet would filter it ???

:M

I have heard a sheet filters close to 100 microns, but please don't take my word for it. The 30 micron filter seems to be holding up well so I guess it is doing its job.

Please post pics of you centerfuge set up when you are completed, I am curious what you come up with.

Hey Ronin :) nice work

What do you use to heat up your oil (noticed you had plastic barrels) and how hot did you go?

thanks, Peter

I use an aquarium 300W submersable heater in each tank, they get up to 94 degrees. My oil sources are very good, so far very little to no water content. I also made a holder for the heater from a coat hanger, it sits at the bottom but is proped up, the only contact point on the barrell is the very tip, but the tip has a protector on the end so it shouldn't burn the plastic.

It's always nice to see another filter setup, thanks for posting the details.

Hey Ronin,

Nice setup! Where did you pick up the gas station style pump? Does it do anything special, like tell you volume?

Regards,
Kuan

Diggen how condensed the set up is. Bench its on looks a little small though.

Hey Kuan,

The pump handle came from Pricess Auto, nothing special no volume measurement. It was on sale for $24 and make it easier to fill cubies with clean oil.

Cheers,
Neil

Yeah I agree but it does the job for now, I am pondering to move this closer to the garage door to allow me to fuel stright tothe tank from from the pump. I currently fill the cubies and then pour it into the tank.
