Thanksgiving Deli Camp anyone??

We've got a 4 day weekend (October 10th - 13th), thinking possibly north of Campbell River, as we haven't made it up there this year.

Anyone game for some late fall camping??

Shouldn't be too many yahoos about that time of year, they'll all be in town at Starbucks, unlike May long at Snow Creek.

Will keep that in mind... wife and I want to get away before she goes on deployment. Would be a chance to try out the new trailer.

Gee-whizikers! I could do with a wee camping sortie. I have barely gotten back from camping and I can't wait to get out again! This place just North of Campbell River: Do you have a place in mind? I'll bet there will be a turn out from the Lower Mainland Tribe... :-D

Any more Asian princesses? They were funny - how out of their element they were...

Another question: In this place you have picked out just north of Campbell River, are there any grassy areas? I have a game owing to me from Electric Jester, but I gotta have something soft with no rocks so the balls don't chip... Also, I thought that the princess with the ball cap and the bud seemed to fit in.
K8, you gotta come, you're the talk of the Lower Mainland, everyone wants to meet you. You and Hazelnut, speaking of which, I notice their ostentatious absence. Perhaps Campbell River is too far for them... smiles.

I am thinking possibly Brewster Lake, nice campsite, but I have to check with my forestry contact and make sure the gate won't be closed by then. According to the website, they charge "fees" until October 1st, but I don't know if that means they lock it up after that or not.

Potluck sounds like an excellent idea. We'd be up for that.

Yes, we will bring everything and the kitchen sink, and I'm pretty sure the woodstove that time of year.

No Asian princesses (bud ball cap notwithstanding) as far as I know, but a few Mexicans and a new Brazilian student that just came to our home.

I don't think there is much by way of grassy areas in that site, but a really nice sandy beach.

I'll send an email to my forestry guy today and post as soon as I get an answer, he's usually pretty quick to reply.

Would be cool to see everyone again!!

We like Brewster Lake! If I am not at the annual-ish "Thanksgiving at Thanksgiving [Cave]" event then Hazelnut, Kona the dog and I (yes Falco, we do live right here in Campbell River  ), will for sure make at least a day / evening foray out to see everyone :M :-D

Hi all you campers out there!

Spoke to the forestry guy with all the info this morning, he says that Brewster will be locked up after September 15th as there aren't enough campers after that to make it worth paying the attendant to stay there.

There is an option of having one of the sites open (Brewster, Campbell or Miller Creek) exclusively for our use, (special occasion permit), at $150 per day and we get the key to the gate. That is based on $10 a day x 15 campers. Sounds like lots of bucks, considering all they do is meet us there, hand us the gate key, and come back and pick it up at the end of the weekend. So for 3 nights it would be $450. but no dealing with yahoos.

HOWEVER, there are lots of other sites near there that are free and open all year, so possibly Stella Lake, which apparently was re-built this year, Gray Lake, Apple Point, etc. etc. All nice spots no doubt. We've been to Stella several times in past years, I think there are about 8 campsites, some larger than others, but enough space overall, and a nice sandy beach and even a grassy area for Falco to play his silly games (tee hee).

The other possibility would be to go back to Snow Creek, the road is fixed for the "short" way in, and I don't think we'd have to deal with any cost issues but likely the Port Alberni Redneck contingent could be there.

I don't think there'd be many campers out that time of year, but possibly the hunters, as I think it is during deer season. Maybe someone in the know about that could comment.

If anyone has other suggestions, lets hear from you.

If we pay the $150 per night deal see if you can negotiate some toilet paper and a flat of beer into the deal. We can give the camp site guy a beer for his troubles... :? .

However, I think the free camp site sounds just Stellar, especially the grassy area for the "Silly Games" (a real Monty Python event), think you not, Electric Jester?

I'm thinking "going to Hell" shirts will be the required uni for camping trips of the future.

Got ours today, thanks Falco!!
