L400. Who's getting one ?

Anyone getting one come Jan ?

Very different than the L300's.

I've driven one and to me, it reminds me of a Mazda MPV. Soccer mom mini van.

I don't think it will affect sales/prices of L300's since they are a completely different vehicle.

Bruce has always said that they're crap compared to the L300 (no real difference to buying an MPV IMO).

I think they still have their spot - they're certainly tougher than your average van, but not as quirky as the L300. You'll see a different spectrum of people getting into them, as it will be more of a cross-over vehicle.

The one that I drove was actually good fun, and still felt tough as hell. That was a 97 LWB though, so a bit newer than the ones we can get next year.

The good thing is that the parts will start becoming more available too, although I'm not sure if I've come up with an answer as to whether you can use parts of the 2.8 on the 2.5 to increase capacity and torque...

The whole drivetrain on the L400 is the same at the GenII Pajero/Montero.

The one thing I like about the GenII L400/Montero's is the superselect system. Can't beat AWD, p/t 4x4, f/t 4x4 all in one. :-D

I'd like to be able to turn within a 10 block radius.

I have no immediate plans to replace Gumdrop, but if she ever stops behaving herself, her replacement could very well be an L400. With only 111,000 km on the odometer, that won't be for a while yet. L400s have goodness, but so do L300s, as we know. For the moment my verbal intimidation is working fine: "Gumdrop, if you don't behave yourself they'll melt you down and turn you in to Hyundais!"

We're so near, but so far on the D:5. The engine, chassis and drivetrain are the same as the Mitsubishi Outlander. It's just a shame what they put on top of the chassis...

I suspect the only thing that is L400 on that is the body. Cause the drivetrain looks like it is the same as that yellow jobby in the first part of the video.

Im not sure if you know, but the L400 is not available in Jan as its production date was april or may, I cant remember what month exactly, I have one for my self in Japan waiting for its Birthday, but even though its the first edition and had some "bugs" over 15 years of previous ownership Pretty much everything was upgraded or fixed over the years, Its new to us, but over there, they have allready had there lives lived, so to speak...

For fun I've just ordered a copy of the L400 Russek manual to see how they are put together. If there is the slightest chance I might some day buy a vehicle, the first thing I always do is get a service manual for it.

The amount of work involved to change the cam belts was one reason I opted for a Delica over an Outback...

A question for Delica dealers: are you planning to start importing L400 any time soon (if so, when exactly), and is there a site in English listing specs and features for L400? Thank you!
