Reporting my fuel economy nummbers after a few tank fulls. I am averaging 12.5 l per 100km in the city, very consistantly. Did a highway trip this weekend up the Coquihalla, Dougals Lake Road to Vernon, and was amazed at the fuel economy difference when driving highway. I got just about exactly 10.0 l per 100km, thats quite a difference. Even when you consider the hilly terrain (65kmh) up the snow shed hill, and some punchy crosswinds in Merritt... the 4D56 was working hard but cruised at 110-115 on the flats and enjoyed the scenery. I am running dino diesel with a Stanadyne additive at 2 ml per litre of fuel.

I am convinced that the CVi tune helped a lot, better economy and better power. In my opinion the Mardy tune should be on the mandatory list of things to do to your Delica.

Just thought Id share my findings, maybe itll help somebody.

The Delica tune should be on the mandatory list for sure. Oddly people refer to it as the Mardy tune, no offence meant to Mardy but Butch is the mastermind behind the tuning. . . I think it should be called the Butch Tune! But that sounds like someone is getting beat up. lol.

Maybe the 4D56 Tune is better? what do you think?

I've only heard of the Delica tune but to be fair then I'd probably call it the "Edwin's Tune" as he's the one buried in the Delica while Butch is all nice and clean, running around...

Nonetheless, I'm glad we have these guys around!

I booked my tune up today. Funny how a guy from Calgary gets his truck serviced in Vancouver.... I am going to be there anyway to go pajero shopping, so it is not just a trip for a tune.

That's mean around 550 km per tank.......I change injecter but still same.400km per tanks.(I fill it up around 65L everytime .

It was better than 550, i put in approx 62 liters before i left n van, which filled me right up, and the fuel light came on at about 590 km and i filled up in Merritt at 610 km. when i filled the tank again it took 63 liters, i couldnt get any more fuel in the tank. If its a 70 liter tank i had about 7 left i guess.

That's definitely not right. It'd mean you're at over 16L/100km which is way too much.
Perhaps there is a pump timing issue?
Have you had the van tuned by someone? (Mardy / CVI?)

that 4L/100 extra equals to $6/100km at today's fuel prices...that'll add up QUICK!

It could also be something in the drivetrain... bad bearings (if vehicle left unused for very long time they can dry out) or something funny in the tranny.

Recently, my Delica is starting to smoke really badly (24/7) and mileage dropping down significantly (last tank 420km/68L)

Power is still up there and shifting is so/so with the kickdown from 4th to 3rd on the highway.

I had my injectors cleaned out and the Delica Tune a few weeks ago.

I'd just like to put it out there that the DelicaTune may not solve all issues alone. It's not a end-all-problems for Delica's.

People seem to think that the Delica-tune will have your Delica running like a new vehicle. It may or may not depending on what is wrong, if there is anything wrong to begin with.

It should be on a to-do-list, I completely agree. Cleaning the injectors is necessary in my opinion.

Your smoke/fuel economy may have less to do with your injectors and more to do with your injection pump/timing/TPS/EGR or a combination of them all.

Something I would not discount.

the basic cvi tune is not the magic bullet for all that ails the 15 year old Deli. But is sure a good place to start. I agree that the injector pump calibration must be right, among many other things. if not, it doesnt matter how clean your injectors are you wont get the most out of your ride. one thing though, between Butch, Mardy and Edwin, they can probably pinpoint a problem better than most of us can.

The Delica Tune includes re-timing the injection pump (main timing, nothing inside the pump is touched) so if that's causing problems the tune should solve it. If you have sticky injectors you may notice the engine 'missing' or stumbling (and smoke) when you start it up cold.

Delica tune made a huge difference, but I'm still a long way from numbers like this! Like Jesse said (sort of), it's a link in the chain. I hope to get to these kind of numbers though...

With these highway numbers at what speed are you going? Also does the slushbox rev lower than the manny tranny on the highway say doing 100km/hr?
