Bringing a Delica to BC

Hello everyone,

I hope to become a member of the "family". I am currently living in Osaka and plan on moving back to BC next year. I was wondering if anyone could assist with information on how to import a Delica to BC...

I am also wondering if it is possible to bring a newer model to Canada..I'm thinking of the new D:5. They are really starting to take off over here and it would be nice to spread that joy to Canada as well.

If anyone has import rules, regulations and cost information, I would really appreciate it.

And if anyone needs help with ordering parts, goodies or actual vehicles from Japan, please let me know. I can try to assist. I plan to head back to BC in January.

Thank you for your time.

I think you will find that most people around here have some familiarity both Federal vehicle import laws and Provincial licensing regulations. We drive these vehicles, after all. If you're here on a visa, or as a tourist, you can bring your car with you. But it can't stay. It must leave when you do.

The most important Federal provision is that private imports must be 15 years old. The first D:5s will be eligible for import in 2022. All our Delicas are L300s, and it's for a reason. The first L400s will be eligible next year: 1994 + 15 = 2009.

Thank you. I was actually born and bred in Kamloops and have been living here in Osaka for the past 10 odd years...so I guess the tourist platform is kinda out the window. Thanks for that, though.

So it's 15 years,eh? Shoot! I have friend here who runs a container business and can handle all the paperwork as well. We are currently driving a Toyota Grand Hi Ace which is awesome for the family. But I fell in love with the Delica when I first got here and now with the D:5 I really want have one. Many friends over here drive Delica's and there a real hoot!

Thank you again for your help. I'll keep checking things out!

You do have one really big advantage over the rest of us, Since you are in Japan right now, You can inspect the Delica you want ahead of time, while we are limited to what gets imported.
