High mount stop lights

I have been working with BC inspections regarding Delica roadworthyness . There is going to be a change in the inspection process and the bulletin will be going out to inspection shops next week . High mount stop lights are NOT required on Delicas , german E-code headlights are fully acceptable , illuminated side marker/reflector units are required and also all bulbs must be changed to north american bulb types . Rear lamp units will be accepted also (with bulbs changed) .

btw... "illuminated side marker/reflector units", can you clarify this? what precisely needs to be added to the Delica to pass this?

Don't count on seeing it in writing and even if you do it doesn't mean they won't change thier mind. They are the government, they do as they please and are clearly making up the rules as they go along.
You can thank the money grubbing, sanctimonious douches like Mr. Jimmy Pattison for pressuring ICBC to sour the milk. Jimmy gets what Jimmy wants.
Of course all those who thought they where being clever by slipping thier's through inspection without making them at all compliant have done them an enormous favour by helping them justify thier crusade.

To Green1 , I am sure you are looking forward to seeing this in writing but if you are in Calgary you may have noticed that is Alberta and I am dealing with BC inspections . Maybe take a drive west a few hours west and find yourself an inspection station next week the bulletin will be there . Mike Woods was at my workshop inspecting the E-code headlamps and markings in preparation for this bulletin . Also to Argo are you an inspector ?? because the bulletin is being sent to all inspection stations .

Yes, I'm a certified inspector but it has been a while since I worked in a certified facility.
I, and others surely understand the validity of inspection and compliance criteria,and very much appreciate your efforts on the behalf of this community to obtain clarification.
The mixed messages one is bound to get from the gov't "authority" do little to inspire confidence in thier ability to fulfill thier role as enforcement professionals. They claim thier mandate is safety but it is plainly obvious to any reasonable person they are acting to protect the interest of others. They do as they are told, and we all know who's calling the shots
Change out the light bulbs? Oh please! what's next? hose clamps?

I will take a stab at this.
In B.C., the manual requires the sides of vehicles to be equipped with front amber reflectors, rear red reflectors and rear red marker lamps. Some aftermarket marker lamps are equipped with a reflector AND a light bulb which makes for a nice tidy solution.
The reflectors allow any parked & unlit vehicle to be conspicuous from the side. The marker lamps allow drivers of other vehicles to discern approximately the length of any vehicle.

You need a marker light so people who drive at you from the side with thier headlights shut off can see you. WTF ?
Most vehicles have wrap around lights visible from 45 degrees.
Too bad all the other jalopy beater domestic cars on our highways don't have to comply.

near as I can tell, the Delica is already compliant with the lighting portion of that (I can see the light of the tailights clearly from the side of the vehicle) however it probably requires reflectors...
now it's really too bad north american vehicles don't have to comply to that one...

I've got similar lights that are on with DRL and when my headlights are on. Vehicle was purchased this way.

Back on the headlights topic, I have been digging through the TC website and found this doc.

I believe this was last updated 2003, and pretty much says that the e-coded lights have always been good to go provided they are set up for driving on the right side of the road.

Not having those little tiny goofy lights are what would make a Deli fail inspection???

I don't think so... basically from what I can see... you need to have front and rear marker lights, well the rear is already visible from the side, so what you need is the front... see my post elsewhere on this site as to how to wire the side turn signals as side marker lights (I think it looks good actually...)
so that leaves reflectors... not having those could (depending on province and inspection facility) make the deli fail....
