Back seat

I'm going to look into it at some point myself but I have very little time so I was wondering if anyone has modded the rear bench so that you can have the seat back reclined flat with the seat flipped forward? I though that it might be pretty handy for really loading stuff into the back much safer that way when carrying lots of stuff back there.

If you are thinking what I am thinking you are thinking, then you don't need to mod the seat at all!!

Are you talking about using the rear seat base 'tipped forward' but having the backrest 'up' to make an almost floor to roof bulkhead? If this is the case, then the seat is designed to do this.

I didn't know this myself until someone recently pointed it out to me!

I don't have the option for that anymore because I have added a really cool mod to my stripped out L300:

Took some work fabricating the subframes, but boy does it make my work van more useable if I need to carry a passenger or two.... 8-)

weird, ok I'll try it again, I though the seat wouldn't do it the first time i tried it, but that was the first week I had it. I'll try it again today and see if it works.

Not as slick as Bruce's setup, but the rear bench seat in most of the delicas here does flip and fold forward to stand against the middle seats. I removed the rear bench anyway, but if you need the seating capacity then the fold forward option is pretty good :M

I think Loki knows about them flipping forward, but wanted to know if the backrest could be used to make a 'taller' barrier than folding it the conventional way.

Here are some shots I've just taken to show that it can (an un-modified bench seat in the Mystery Machine)

Hope that helps??

WOW!..... and... WOW! Now you tell us! Was hauling a house full of old carpet yesterday and could've used that feature. Great to know for the future tho!

Now for Bruce's mod... VERY cool! What were those seats from originally?

Cheers!

I remember seeing a strange diagram in the japanese manual for lifting the back seat forward, but I assumed it was to take it out. Apparently I wasn't really on the ball there. But I tried flipping the bench forward, and the amount of space back there is amazing! And the floor to ceiling bulkhead is pretty wild too. Just the fact that you can use the word 'bulkhead' in a van. Those japanese engineers, brilliant!

For those with wee kidlets, when set up this way a playpen can be fitted in the back. Perfect holding cell for napping ankle-biters but still provides some access to the van.
