Glow plug relay stopped clicking.

Hey all I noticed today my glow plug relay stopped clicking. At least I think its the relays. Funny enough the van starts just fine in our cold weather. But I'm thinking I should replace my relays as they are looking very rusty looking which is never good for the electrics.
After looking at amayama it shows my van has 2 relays with a different MD part number for each but only one is available.
MD012137 RELAY,GLOW PLUG CONTROL 14616QG
MD155274 RELAY,GLOW PLUG CONTROL 14616QH
Anyone know if I can get by having two of the same ones? MD155274 is the one that's available.

Turns out it might not be relays but ECU, anyone have a contact for Daniel at W1NGS electronics anymore? His website is out of service. Or if any member has had experience with another repair shop in BC for ECU's please let me know. Thanks!

I think Butch @ CVI had access to someone that repaired ECU's @ one time. Not sure if he still does. I also have a unit that worked when I changed to the Hyundai engine. I use a 12V manual system now so don't need it. If you want it let me know.

Thanks Larry! I jumped the van yesterday directly to bus bar and was surprised at how fast it fired up in sub 0 weather. So I've decided to do a manual system myself. If I do decide to go the ECU route again I'll be sure to let you know.
Happy Holidays.

Are you going to use 6 or 12 V glow plugs? If your using the 6V ones make sure you don't have a maintained switch or you can have real problems! I use a momentary switch and an OFF delay timer so they turn off automatically and I can also use them a few times if necessary once the van is running.
Good Luck!!

You can make a pushbutton connect to the relays rather than direct to bus if the relays are working

I'm unsure, I have a super quick glow system and was going to run a momentary switch to the 2nd relay via a piggy back connector.

Right, I have a pushbutton momentary connected installed right now, was just going to run it to 2nd relay.

That should work fine. I'm not sure, but I think the second relay uses the resistor bank so you will only get 6V which may not be to fast but it would be safer. The relay connection is the best way to go!!

Uh, well I installed the manual switch, tried to start it, glow plugs click but nothing but a starter click to go with that. Weird since before I was able to hear the engine crank over. Batteries have lots of power. So I Shifted through all the gears on the transmission and started again. She fired up!
Not entirely sure what the culprit is as of yet, maybe the inhibitor switch for transmission (there was a couple of corroded broken wires leading to transmission that I fixed in the air filter area. I'll also have to check the starter connections at starter. I put everything back together again and about an hour later it starts just fine without using manual switch.
I notice the glow plug clicks are quieter which might be attributed to taking them out, inspecting and cleaning terminals. So anyway I have a manual switch installed in case the automatic really craps out -_-
