Relocating from Vancouver to Montreal

Hello Delica Community!

I have been in a few delica's for what seems like quite a while now. I've been lucky to have access to a shop and parts from Coombs auto while living in Vancouver. Something has come up in my life and it seems as though I will relocating to Montreal in October for the next 5 years.

Currently I daily drive a 2002 l400 chamonix diesel. Being reluctant to sell, I also own a 95' l300 high roof 4d56. Both of course are automatic, both have 2.5" lifts, snorkels, exhausts, wheels/tires, and fun goodies. I have been told that the l400 is a very difficult model to service outside of BC with things that would be outside my mechanical ability ie. injection pumps and internals.

I am curious if anyone on here had any advice or if any locals could shed some light on a few topics for me:
- The drive across Canada, would the l300 suffice? Which would be better?
- Would I be better off selling one or the other, or both?
- Block heaters, obviously its going to be f***ing COLD during the winter, which we don't usually get here.
- Service expenses or even availability in Montreal .
- Would it be worth while to bring one over and sell it when I got there.

I appreciate any insight or opinions. I have never driven across Canada but I have spent some previous time in Montreal but I cant help but feel I'm going at this a little blind. I work in trades and would like to keep my current vehicle as it suits me perfectly without having to buy a guzzling truck.

THANK YOU in advance.

Damn, I hate being the bearer of bad news...

To register a Right Hand Drive vehicle in Québec, it must be 25 years old or older. That means a manufacture date of 1994 or before (to the month!!!).

I know, F%$&in' Québec!

Insurance might be an issue as well. Most insurance companies think these vehicles are more dangerous (even though they're not) because of the RHD thing. And I assume they're getting enough business from everyone else, that they're not really interested in insuring what we drive. It's Government mandated that we have insurance on our vehicles, but its not mandated that the insurance companies provide the insurance for us.

Besides that, Montreal is a fantastic city. I'm sure you'll really enjoy it there. At least for the two months of summer, lol

Good luck with everything

Insurance wasn't an issue on my side, most companies dont even offer insuring RHD, but there's a few out there that do for reasonable pricing. I currently only pay 70$ more a year than what I was paying for my previous LHD car (insurance in Quebec is very cheap compared to other provinces).

But yeah, you wont be able to register your vans in Quebec before they are 25 years old :-(
This is the main reason L400s are ''harder'' to maintain here, we only have 2 in Quebec at the moment (as far as I know). The '94 are slowly starting to get imported here!

By the way, your vans look amazing! :D
