Buy in Calgary or Van?

Hi to everyone. I've been lurking on this awesome site and doing my research for a month or so and just starting to get serious about buying a Delica. My first question: is there anyone in Calgary that sells and services Delicas (I did a search and found one place but it looks like they have moved to Ontario)? Or is it better to make the trip from Calgary to Van and buy from one of the shops out there? If option two is the better one can you recommend a reputable dealer?
I wasn't sure where to post this question so please feel free to move it if necessary.
Thanks!

Hi and welcome!

Not sure about Calgary but here in Vancouver there are plenty of them for sale right now. Check this link for start:
http://www.buysell.com/classifieds/Resu ... elica.html

As for reputable dealers there's more and more available. Sorry if I forget to mention some but here's a few that have received good comments from this forum:

http://www.japanoid.com
http://maxoverdrive.ca
http://www.fivestarautosales.ca
http://enviroimports.com

You can also contact MardyDelica on this site, I'm not certain but pretty sure he imports them as well and he's very knowledgeable.

These are some other retailers but I haven't heard as much from them and some are on the Island. They may be excellent but can't tell:

http://www.silkroadautos.com
http://www.abbotsfordjapanauto.com
http://www.jdm-wholesale.ca
http://www.luxuryimports.ca
http://www.tyeeimports.com
http://www.comoxvalleydelica.com
http://tktmotors.com/delica.html
http://www.islandauto.ca/filter.php?man ... Mitsubishi

Again, sorry if I forgot anyone, not intentional...
Good luck with your search!

Service is no problem, Pro-Active Automotive is a good place.

Seller... I'm not sure. There's a guy around, but I also heard he's moving to ON. Not sure. Maybe the other Calgary guys know about this.

There's another importer in Calgary: http://www.trekkerimports.com/, but I don't know anything about these people. I bought from a guy who's out of business now.

Let's see what the other local guys think about this...

Good luck,

Fabio :M

Have heard good reports about Barry at Mustang Connection concerning 2 different JDM Toyota Vans.

Armstrongs closer then the lower slushland.

Terra2Imports is in Vernon, but they're an import assist only company me thinks.

Yup, Terra2 will assist you on bidding on a vehicle and import it on your behalf BUT they don't guarantee the vehicle will match the auction grading nor anything else basically and it will take close to 4 months before you get your vehicle... :-(

I can vouch for Barry at the Mustang Connection too. I got my Celica from there and their support finding me rare parts for my car has been great.

There's Luxury Imports in Calgary as well:

http://www.luxuryimports.ca

And there's lots on the coast for sure. Terra2 (http://www.terra2imports.ca) lets you buy right from auction in Japan, so you save some money, and the shipping costs to Calgary are actually less than the PST should you buy in Vancouver. (you get the van delivered to Calgary for less than if you picked it up in Vancouver) The only issue is that you buy sight unseen and it can take a while to cross the Pacific. There's also no support in terms of warantee etc.

If you're going the auction route (and sorting out your own shipping) you'll save money but there's a lot more work. It'll cost you more to buy ones already in Canada but then you have the chance to test drive and all the compliance work will hopefully have been done already, and perhaps a warantee in there too.

Just my two cents...

Thanks for the thoughts turf'd. Luxury imports were the ones here in Calgary that I had thought moved to Ontario. I haven't called them to confirm however. I did check their website and it seems their prices are quite a bit higher than from some of the dealers in Van. I'll have to do some number crunching to see if the PST closes the gap though.
Not sure I'm comfortable buying one sight unseen so it looks like a trip to Vancouver might be on the horizon.

While Wayne is moving to Ontario I am under the impression that Luxury Imports is going to be maintaining a Calgary presence.

**** EDIT: removing my recomendation for Luxury imports due to their recent change in attitude slandering the entire import process, flinging baseless accusations at other importers and exporters, and admission of illegal importing ****

I bought mine from Wayne at Luxury Imports, and yes, the price is higher, but so is the resulting Delica. Mine had 24,000 km on it when I got it (and no, I don't believe it was rolled back). I saw it when it first came in, and it was amazingly clean. But Wayne gets all his vehicles detailed, and it came out of that shop looking brand new. Detailing is normally done before delivery, but I was "special", so I drove it for a six weeks before that was done.

Before the detailing, I took the Delica to visit my regular mechanic shop. They were amazed. One of them looked underneath at the rear axle and exclaimed, "My God, this thing looks brand new!" You can judge for yourself by looking at the same photos I saw when deciding to buy: http://www.luxuryimports.ca/forsale/199 ... /index.php. It was labeled on the website as a 1991, since it was built in March 1991, but it is actually a 1992 model, and has the 3-point seatbelts and centre brake light.

Just look on LuxuryImport site under "Sold Vehicles" and you'll see some of the cleanest Delica around! Should give you a good idea anyway.

I too was looking for a Delica in Calgary area, I choose to not import and purchased one already here just purchased my yesterday (still need to get it inspected).

What I did to find mine was just google "Delica Calgary" and sorted through them, you will get a lot for other cities and even Delica Beads (?).
Here is some information I found on other Delica for Sale in Alberta.

User name "getrolfed" on Delica.ca was selling one not sure if still available
http://www.delica.ca/forum/nov-1992-exc ... -1612.html

This lady in Edmonton had this listed http://www.usedcalgary.com/classified-a ... 4x4-trucks (780 968 4914)
is now sold but she said also has a Delica with a Pop-up top camper bed wants to sell $16,000. Very nice lady and very helpful.

Mountain Parameters in Deadman Flats (just east of Canmore) list some coming in soon on their Website
http://imports.mparam.com/index.cfm also have this one on Kijiji:
http://calgary.kijiji.ca/c-cars-vehicle ... dZ34823483

I purchased my from Ryan http://mydelica.blogspot.com/ he says will be bring more in soon.

In any case I wish you all the best in your search.
