How much interest would there be in stainless steel brake caliper pistons. Im making some for myself because I've had troubles with them twice now in the last 4 years. Most recently the pistons would not return after releasing the brakes - this resulted in overheat, smoke, and a tow truck ride.

Would there be any interest in this among the community if I machine a few extra to sell?

Hi, i'm interested! Would you be making them for the dual piston upgrade? or the stock single configuration. I'm getting close to doing that mod. What kind of cost ballpark do you think these will be in?

We first need to know if we talk about L300 or L400 or are they the same ?

Sorry, I was talking about L400, but if someone is willing to send me an old piston for L300s I can make those too.

Material cost will be high on this one. Quick look at metalsupermarket.com says $175 for 24 inches. I think I can get it cheaper than that, lets say $150, and I could make about 10 or 11 pieces from that... So material cost would per piece would be about $15. Add machining cost and I'd guess somewhere close to $50 a piece total....

Dont know if a lot of people are gonna be interested in that, especially on the L400 you would need 4 of those just to do the front brakes.

The idea of these are to increase lifespan and reduce failure rate right? It might be worth it to some people, especially if it was a kit with the two pistons and the new bracket.

Yeah the idea is to avoid ever having the calipers seize up and needing replacement. Ive had to replace the whole caliper assembly and pads due to corrosion on the pistons themselves. Plus the cost of a tow truck. So it starts to look like $40-50 per piston wouldnt be such a bad idea.

I dont know what you mean by a new bracket?

Try this site for L400 pistons and many other parts . Their rubber boots didn't last long on my brake pistons but the price on the pistons was very good.

Looks like a good resource - I already ordered a repair kit from rockauto.com, and I think the pistons Ill make myself this time.
