Hey all! I am in desperate need of new Shocks and wanted some opinions on what brands everybody's running and why you like them. I've not had a ton of luck running down part numbers on shocks i've found online. Tire rack is supposed to get back to me on the cost of KYB shocks...which would be okay since i'll probably be buying tires off of them as well. I ideally want a bit of lift out of these shocks.
So, if you want to, tell us what brand you are using, why you like them (or hate them) average cost of the shocks and where you got 'em. Apologies if this has been discussed recently, I couldn't find any post's about a shocks poll.

I'm interested as well. I think mine are stock and a bit tired...

I thought mine were just tired too, and then we started to drive it more and "oh boy" . I'm interested in what people are using as well. Most of the local places I've called have been unhelpful to say the least.

I believe you can get them from the local Mitsubishi shop as well.

I just talked to RMI and they told me to go to any shop and get Monroe front #550012 and rear#37074ST. Tire rack said that those are special order numbers so that's what i'm wating for i guess. Still curious whose's running what...

I've got Bilstein on the front & Rancho on the rear. I think the WIKI are for stock and you need longer rear shocks for a lift

They seem pretty good from driving around the city but I have yet to take them out in the woods.
LDiz also has them and I remember he being pretty satisfied with them.

Lrp374, I've tried looking up those Bilstien numbers with no luck, I even put a call into Bilstein NA in North Carolina to see if it got consolidated into a different shock number (like an adjustable..)...and have yet to hear back. Did you replace your shocks at different times or was the choice of Rancho back Bilstein front all you had? How much lift do you currently have with that pairing?

Joebillhill, I just got off the phone with Oreilly's, and their price on the Monroe's is maybe two bucks more than the Amazon Prime price which beats Napa by 10 bucks I wanted to put some lift into it but I don't think I can afford it now (along with the other stuff i'm looking at having to buy soon..) and i think it would be good to get used to seeing what it drives like stock, with good shocks.

I went back to check and Bilstein has changed their numbering system. The number I had used was B46-1336-HD. You can buy them here http://www.eshocks.com/Shocks_Vehicles. ... stein&MF=N

They are for a 91 Montero.

I bought my shocks @ 2 different times. I checked and the rear are Pro-Comp not Rancho. I bought them as the Bilstein ones pictured did not have the correct connections for a Delica and I could get the Pro-Comp locally. I have a 2" lift and the front Bilstein's are fine and the Pro-Comps were purchased for the travel I needed with the lift. I can't find the catalog number but I'll keep looking. Hope this helps.

Larry, Thanks. Helpful indeed. Did you crank up your torsion bars before buying your shocks or after? This is something i've been planning on doing but haven't got around to yet and I don't do it in the wrong order.

That's good to know. We will do 80 percent pavement but there is a family cabin in Blue Ridge GA that has a couple of miles of bone rattling washboards. It's a pretty common trip for us.

I love my Monroe 550012. I don't believe those will cross reference to anything Delica related. I found they reference to a Caprice Cop Car. But they fit, they're beefy, they work and they're cheap. I have the torsion bars cranked up pretty far too, no problems. Got them on Amazon for cheap.

I believe in the back I have the Monroe 37074. It's at my buddy's shop currently. When it's back I'll crawl under and verify. Zero complaints there. I haven't had the van super loaded up yet (although has super heavy pop up camper roof), but rides really nice.

Well if they cross ref to a cop car, i would bet they're pretty beefy indeed. That makes me feel better about the Monroes. For some reason I thought they were on the lower end of the brands, quality wise. I made the mistake of commenting on how much I noticed the shocks not working when my wife happened to be riding with me. she didn't appreciate it, but it might get us our shocks faster..

LDiz, did you make the extended socket for the T bars? Or did you use a wrench? Super cool van btw, I love the pop-top!

Thanks. The Monroes are low end. I mean the welds are sloppy and they're big and clunky. Mass produced. Appear to be spray painted. But for $70 - $80 they made a big difference. I figured if they were no good, I'd look higher end, but I'm happy.

For the torsion bars, I just used a wrench. Wasn't too terrible. But then again the underside of my van is unusually clean. Got lucky.
