Hey guys, new to this site. Been thinking about a Delica for a while. Getting pretty serious now. Looking forward to your tips and advice.

I would read this and this before doing anything too serious. Also, familiarize yourself with options you want/don't (long/short wheelbase, low/high/double sunroof/crytal lite roof, gas/diesel, auto/manual, lifted/stock, and a bunch more that you can find by puttering around the site). Be sure to stock up on oil and fuel filters when you buy.

Oh, and be ready to fall in love.

I have been looking and dreaming for about a year now. Right now I am in contact with Graham at cca. He has a 95 royal exceed diesel lwb. It's exactly what I want. One question I have. Is a 95 a generation? What is the difference between a gen 1 and 2?

Biggest difference between Gen 1 and Gen 2 is the Gen 2 has an electronic fuel injector which is apparently somewhere between simple and impossible to repair (depending on who you ask), due to the need of some sort of magical Japanese tool or something. Gen 2s also have an updated front end (no bull bar, slightly different lights, etc.), so you can tell right away which one you're looking at. 94 to 95 are Gen 1, and somewhere in 96, they switched, so yours would be Gen 1.

Thanks for the info. Just to be clear you are talking about the diesel injectors? So would you prefer a gen 1?

Yep, diesel.
I dunno, I think it's one of those things that seems like a "really big deal" when you're buying, and then once you buy it, how often does your injector pump go? So far, never on any of my vehicles, but who knows? And lots of guys have the Gen 2s, so it can't be a real deal-breaker, you know? But for me, I would prefer the Gen 1 just because I know it can be fixed without Japanese wizardry, if it should ever need to be.

Do it!!! You won't regret it, life is too short to drive a boring vehicle! Definitely NOT a minivan. Logically, resale is good if you look after it and if you want to look at alternative fuels diesel is the way to go. I'm spending about 35 cents a liter on fuel this summer! Ralph

Ralph, you run yours on veggie oil? Sounds interesting but probably won't work well in the winter.

My son has seen a Delica in spruce woods August long weekend. He said it had manitoba plates. Unfortunately I missed it. I am wondering if it was any of you guys?
