I know a few years back this was tried and I'm not sure weather it worked or not. I am also aware that there are diy versions for cheap and I'm not interested in that. I'm in it for both the looks and function. So please, if you not interested, do not high Jack the thread with why we are stupid.
I can make the calls and try and negotiate prices and what not for both L300 and L400. I'm thinking we aim for 3 months from now so we have time to gets funds together.
I'm open to most any of the snorkels on the market.
Anyone interested?

There were a few L300 buyers, I was I believe, the only L400 snorkel buyer.
If I remember correctly it took a while to organize as a lot of people who committed backed out at the last second.

Do you remember how much you paid? Ya, I figured it would be tough to do but I thought it was worth a try.

I have found several suppliers in China and Russia of all places for L400 and L300 Snorkels...both models have 1 main option and the prices vary depending on QTY ordered. The L300 uses a side mount that site behind the drivers door and is very low profile...the L400 snorkel was really designed for the Gen 2 but can be adapted to fit the Gen 1. There are 1 or 2 custom snorkel options but these start at $500 and have been seen at several thousand (not joking here).
One problem that comes into play is when forum folks are scattered across the provinces which means the order of 10 units would come a central point with that shipping covered in the first order...but then there would be secondary shipping costs once the bits arrive in Canada and need to be distributed again....and because these are large boxes the $$$ can get a bit stupid...(60-100 per unit additional shipping in Canada) So the primary delivery point gets their stuff much cheaper than everyone else.
If we could find a supplier that would do minimum orders of 3-5 and ship to say Calgary , Vancouver, Victoria for the main hubs then that makes the costs a bit more equal.

So, what would be the price of a l300 snorkel shipped to Edmonton on its own?

I would love to add a snorkel to my L400 series 1 Delica...very interested in this. Want it to lookk good though, the bit about having to modify to make it fit the series 1 worries me.

I think it was $350?
You can also order L400 snorkels on eBay from OZ for cheap. Probably Alibaba or aliexpress too:

That looks like a good deal, have you noticed a difference in performance with it Fibble? Curious about the ram air effect. And keeping some of the dust out of my air filter. No intentions of submerging my baby!

a snorkel provides little power advantages..... Their primary purpose is provide dry air when crossing water. They also funnel dust particles in higher quantities to the air filter compared to the same vehicle that has no snorkel so air filter changes are more frequent but there are ways to mitigate the dust.
The snorkel for the Gen 2 L400 partially covers the signal light when installed on a Gen1 L400 because the front clip of the 2 models are slightly different but lots of Auzzie owners have done it.
I would get the snorkel and install the dust trap type intake horn which would save me changing air filters every 6000-8000kms! My present change out is 17-20k.

I haven't, but then I have not got it out on the highway. Apparently at speeds over 40km/h it reduces the work on the turbo by ram effect. I believe the effect is more apparent in an L300 than the 4.
I have a series 1, and the part that blocks the turn signal is very small, hardly blocks it really.

I have been looking high and low for a localish snorkel with pretty well no luck at a reasonable price point. I may try and put together a diy kit that looks decent. Might try and find a 3"steel tube and get it powder coated. Anyone have a good idea for what I should use for the top piece? Some say that just a opening facing forward may not be a good idea because of dust, rain, rocks etc.

You can buy just the snorkel head on its own (they sometimes get knocked off when driving off-road. Or, in this case, off-load:

If you drive on dusty roads a snorkel can reduce the amount of dust, since it's higher up (but maybe not on a L300, where the dust dropout box/"missing" section does a pretty good job). I've seen people driving in rain with the snorkel head pointing backwards too, presumably to reduce the amount of rain ingested. Not sure about rocks- if there are rocks flying past at roof height you may have more immediate concerns than air filter longevity.

You can use a cyclone head to cut down on dust much better than a RAM head:

Yep, that's exactly what I'm thinking. I like it.
