I am trying to find out how much weight a Deli will actually carry safely . Not stuff i know there great for that. Any feed-back would be great : )

Don't know about the swb Delica but my lwb can weigh (according to the Mitsubishi specs) up to 2505 kg total ( own weight is 1624 kg), hope that helps.

I sure hope it can do more than that! I weighed my Delica today on the way to Banff:
- full load of fuel (scale was in the gas station parking lot)
- 6 people on board
- minimal luggage
2450kg total

Last week we had the same 6 people, but also had gear for a weekend of winter hostelling... estimating 25kg/person that would have put us at 2600kg (over that maximum) and I wouldn't have called us fully loaded... (heck, there was room for people to play board games while I was driving, and I could even still see out the back window!)

Thanks a tonne that that really helps. I have been toying with getting a Deli for my business and i think that's the clincher

6 people, plus camping gear for the weekend feels quite safe, and like there's plenty of load-bearing capacity left.

I have hauled a complete set of kitchen cupboards (flat packs, stacked all the way to the ceiling) and that was probably over the theoretical weight limits, but didn't seem to be an issue.

All I can say for sure is that when fully loaded (or even when not) hills on the highway aren't done at 120km/h... think more like 70-90 through the mountain passes.... (just get comfortable driving with the big-rigs)

As a work van the Delica rocks, only downside being that you have to answer question about it often slowing down your work day.

In mine I was carrying enough weight at times that caused a Dodge caravan to bottom out. There was easily; over 130 kgs on the roof (heavy duty ladder rack, 32 ft, 24ft, 6ft step), 400kg of heavy wire spools and metal parts rack filling the back, and three boxes of 1000ft (when full) plus another parts bin through the slider that weighed more then me. The suspension and brakes handle it super duper, and (ours) heavily loaded Deli's ride better. I was cruising around with max capacity, it rode level and true.

The high floor height is nice on the lower back, IMO.

No problem on "normal" roads but i wouldn't like to go offroading with that kind of weight on my roof....

you think that's bad... I work for the competition, we use wooden ladders, it adds quite a bit of weight, I have the following on the roof of my work van (not a delica I'm afraid)
- 30 foot wooden extension ladder
- 14 foot wooden extension ladder
- 6 foot wooden step ladder
- misc conduit lengths
- 2 x 6' galvanized ground rods

I don't think the 130 kg is bad but i suppose you don't ride a hill sideways because the tilt angle must drop dramatically ?
