Hi I just purchased a 1999 l400 LWB and so far so good...
There are a few things that i will need to fix and add to get it to where I want and was hoping i could get some answers here...
1... Where can i find one of the Japanese aluminum basket type roof racks, and do they work on the L400s?
2... Does anyone have a Japanese lady speaking to them frequently as you drive following a bonging sound?? WTF?? what is she saying and how do i turn her off... LOL I think it may have something to do with the factory GPS that came with the van which i also have no idea what it says because its all in Japanese. I do like the look and sound of the factory radio and plan on keeping it i just need to turn Chatty Cathy off.
3...Problems with the sunroof... is it common for these sunroof to not work properly and if so is there a common fix or replacement parts available?
Thanks in advance
I plan on camperizing this van with a rear westy type back seat/bed unit and looking forward to lots of adventures in it.

Regarding the sun roof, see the third entry on this thread:

I fixed mine which worked for a few weeks then wouldn't close the first time I pressed the button, had to press twice. Later it wouldn't close at all, sort of closed but then automatically started to open again. Probably because too much crud had built up in the mechanism.

Re: Hearing Voices.......
I would relate the bonging sound to the seat belt or the door open with the key in the ignition. If it's the GPS I would imagine that there would be options for the voice, like volume or on/off. If you know any Japanese people perhaps you could persuade them to help you read the GPS menu options. Another way would be to disconnect the unit. I imagine there would be a plug that could be pulled.Wolfbus wrote:2... Does anyone have a Japanese lady speaking to them frequently as you drive following a bonging sound?? I will attempt to fix it soon.. I wonder if the cog is available aftermarket or new instead of flipping the old one.??

I think I turned her off today... I'll keep my fingers crossed because she's annoying !
As far as the bonging it's not the door open or seat belt, it's preceds the lady talking to get your attention I think..
And Ya I think I will try to find a Japanese stero installer to help with the stero.
