Importing Accord Wagons

My name is Jerry and I live in Japan. I was recently talking to a friend in the States and he mentioned that he would like to have me send him a 1996 Hond Accord Wagon to the States. I have heard that there are restrictions for RHD cars but he told me that they can be imported. I know that you have a 15 year restriction in Canada but is there a exception for cars like this to be imported into the States and is it also possible to send them to Canada? Look forward to your expertise, Thank you.

Hello, where Canada has a 15 year restriction on vehicle imports, the US has a 25 year restriction. Most of us wouldn't know the finer details of what loop-holes maybe available, though the only vehicles I have seen imported from Japan into the States are 4x4 kia trucks and sports cars. Both vehicle examples can not be licensed for public roads south of our border.

Regards,
Kev

I'm not sure why you'd come to a canadian delica forum to ask about sending an accord to the US... (would it make sense for me to ask a japanese delica site about sending a ford to china??) but here is what I know...

The US restricts imports to 25 years old or older, the exception is that in the US (unlike Canada) a newer vehicle can be made to comply, the process for doing this is quite involved, and by law has to be done by a registered importer, your best bet is to find a registered importer in the US and ask them the details of the process.
